Chapter 650 Not a Hint of Concern

Chapter 650 Not a Hint of Concern

After getting chewed out by Albert, Ludwig didn’t dare make a sound. He quickly started the car and headed straight for Southview Residence.

When they arrived at Southview Residence, Ludwig parked the car and was about to get out to open the door for Albert, but Albert had pushed the door open himself and hurried inside.

Watching Albert’s hurried figure, Ludwig breathed a sigh of relief.

Ludwig thought, ‘Thank goodness, there was nothing seriously wrong with Elnora.

‘If Elnora had gotten hurt and I hadn’t reported it today, who knows how Albert would punish me!

Ludwig couldn’t figure out when Albert had gotten so invested in Elnora.

He quietly reminded himself: from now on, anything to do with Ms. Finley was always a big deal.

Albert walked in briskly. Belinda had just finished tidying up and was about to head to her room for a break.

Seeing Albert come in so quickly, she immediately stopped in her tracks.

“Sir…” Belinda started to say.

But before she could finish, Albert was already heading upstairs, not letting her finish her sentence.

Belinda watched Albert go upstairs, sighed softly, then grabbed the document Elnora had looked at earlier in the afternoon and went up to hand it to him.

Albert walked up to Elnora’s bedroom door and lifted his hand to open it.

But when he twisted the doorknob, it didn’t move at all.

Apparently, the door was locked from within.

Albert took a deep breath, his chest feeling tight and suffocated.

He raised his hand and knocked on the door.

“Ms. Finley, are you still up?” Albert called out.

No answer came from inside, and the door stayed shut.

Albert knocked again.

Just then, Belinda came upstairs. Seeing Albert at Elnora’s bedroom door, she murmured, “Ms. Finley turned in early tonight.”

Albert frowned, thinking to himself, ‘With Elnora’s temper, even if I banged on the door all night, she still wouldn’t let me in.’

It was obvious she was upset with him because of what went down in the afternoon.

Albert was troubled, too.

He couldn’t figure out why Stella had to stir up so much drama.

Things ended so amicably between them.

Albert nodded, deciding not to knock on Elnora’s door again.

Belinda came over and handed him the document.

“Mr. Campbell, this came by local courier this afternoon,” she said.

Albert frowned as he took the document from Belinda. Seeing it had already been opened, he asked, “What’s this?”

“You should take a look yourself,” Belinda replied.

Albert frowned as he pulled the document out of the file envelope.

When he saw what was inside, he paused, stunned for a second, his fingers tightening around the document.

He glanced up at Elnora’s tightly shut door and asked quietly, “Did Ms. Finley see all of this?”

Belinda nodded quietly. “Yes.”

“The courier didn’t mention who the package was for, so Ms. Finley opened it to take a look,” Belinda explained.

Albert took a deep breath. “Did she say anything?”

Belinda shook her head. “Ms. Finley didn’t say anything.”

Albert frowned.

After a few seconds of silence, Belinda added, “After Ms. Finley looked over the document, she put it aside and said to hand it to you when you got back.”

Albert pressed his lips together, staying quiet for quite a while.

Seeing his reaction, Belinda figured this report probably had something to do with Albert.

“Mr. Campbell, you and Ms. Finley are already married. If you keep getting involved with your ex, it’ll only make Ms. Finley lose faith in you,” Belinda said softly.

Albert stayed silent.

Belinda didn’t say anything more.

She’d only dared to say that much, hoping Albert would take the hint.

Belinda turned and headed downstairs.

Albert lingered outside Elnora’s bedroom door for quite a while before eventually walking away and returning

to his own room.

The next morning, when Elnora came downstairs after getting ready, Albert was already sitting on the couch, like always.

As soon as he saw her, Albert got up from the sofa and looked her way.

“You’re up,” he said.

Elnora nodded.

“Good morning,” Elnora said, her tone flat.

Albert replied, “Good morning.”

Elnora headed to the dining room, pulled out a chair, and sat down.

Belinda quickly brought out breakfast.

Albert walked over and took a seat across from her.

While waiting for breakfast, Elnora was checking her phone for messages.

After Albert sat down, he started to explain, “The case analysis from the international hospital yesterday was the one I sent over when she was first diagnosed with acute leukemia.”

Elnora didn’t even look up from her phone. She nodded to show she already knew.

Seeing her reaction, Albert continued, “I’m not involved with her anymore. I already looked into what happened yesterday. I’ll have someone keep tabs on it and make sure Wendelin gets the punishment she deserves.”

Elnora replied coolly, “You don’t have to worry about it. I’ve handed everything over to my lawyers. They’ll follow up.”

Albert fell silent.

Elnora finished scrolling through all her work messages as Belinda finished setting out breakfast.

Elnora picked up her glass of milk and took a small sip, then glanced over at Albert.

Noticing Elnora’s gaze, Albert straightened up in his seat, looking at her with anticipation.

Elnora’s expression was composed, unaffected by anything that had happened.

Albert thought Elnora was about to say something to him, but she looked at him for a moment, then turned

her attention elsewhere without a word.

Even though Elnora didn’t react at all, Albert felt like he’d been punched right in the chest.

“Elnora, I’ll keep my distance from her,” Albert said.

“About the medical report, it was because of me…” he started to explain.

Elnora cut him off quietly.

“Mr. Campbell, there’s no need to explain. Whether it’s out of pity or because you still have feelings for her, it makes no difference to me,” Elnora said.

Elnora set down her glass of milk and started eating breakfast at her unhurried pace.

Albert watched her serene expression. He’d spent all last night rehearsing explanations, but now that he was in front of her, he realized he didn’t even have a chance to use any of them.

Every time he tried to bring up the issue, Elnora would cut him off right away, shutting him down before he could get a word in.

‘This isn’t how I wanted things to go, Albert thought, feeling frustrated.

Still, even though he knew Elnora didn’t want to hear it, Albert couldn’t help but state his position anyway.

He said, “I’m not someone who turns a blind eye when someone’s in need. If I ignore it now, my conscience

will haunt me later.

“Nothing is going on between us.

“Whether you believe me or not, I wanted to let you know where I stand.”

Elnora glanced up at Albert, her expression completely neutral.

“Alright, I get it,” she replied.

Her simple reply made all the fight drain out of Albert. He frowned, looking up at Elnora.

He said deeply, “Elnora, don’t you think you’re being way too cold?

“How can you… deal with our issues like you don’t even care?”

She was almost unnaturally calm.

There wasn’t even a flicker of emotion in her eyes.

Albert felt utterly ignored. There wasn’t even a hint of concern from Elnora, not the slightest trace.
