Chapter 651 True Emotions

Chapter 651 True Emotions

Elnora’s gaze landed on Albert as she set down her breakfast.

Her tone was casual and nonchalant as she said, “Mr. Campbell, what do you want me to do about it?

“Getting worked up over something so trivial isn’t my style. I doubt you’d want to be with someone who throws a tantrum.

“Ms. Taylor is already unfortunate. If I were to do anything to her, wouldn’t that make things worse for her? Besides, I don’t want to get caught up in petty drama or jealousy. The way I was raised has taught me to look beyond these things.”

Then, Elnora stood up from her seat.

Albert lifted his gaze to her and rose as well.

Elnora walked toward the door.

When she reached the doorway, she paused and turned to look at Albert.

Albert met her gaze.

After a few seconds, Elnora gave him a faint smile and said softly, “Mr. Campbell, if you’re expecting to find traces of Stella in me, you’ll probably end up disappointed.”

Albert quickly shook his head. “No, that’s never crossed my mind…”

Elnora cut him off, her voice calm and neutral as she said, “Honestly, from what I’ve seen lately, Ms. Taylor actually suits you quite well.”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Albert was left speechless. Her words hit him hard.

He’d poured all his attention into Elnora lately, and all he got was Elnora telling him he’d be better off with Stella.

Albert was fuming. He could barely keep his cool as his chest heaved.

Belinda stood off to the side, listening to their tense exchange. Not quite an argument, but enough to set her nerves on edge and make her heart race.

For some reason, she couldn’t shake the sinking feeling that these two were probably beyond saving.

When Elara walked into Elnora’s office at Campbell Group to give her work report, she glanced around and realized Albert was missing. She couldn’t help but feel a bit puzzled.

After all, everyone in the company had been talking nonstop yesterday about Albert joining Campbell Group.

But today, he was just… gone.

Elnora barely said a word today.

She rushed through all her tasks, finishing everything in record time.

As Elara handed Elnora some reports and documents about Campbell Group’s branch offices, she asked softly, “Ms. Finley, are you heading out for some fieldwork?”

Elnora nodded. “Yeah. Only by being on the ground myself can I gather all the info, inside and out, so the board can make informed decisions.”

Elara hesitated, then gently reminded her, “But you just started at Campbell Group. Won’t this put too much pressure on you? And besides…”

‘She’s only just gotten better. I am concerned about Elnora’s health, Elara thought.

Elnora replied, “Don’t worry. It’s well within my capabilities.”

Elara knew that once Elnora made a decision, it was nearly impossible to change her mind. So she nodded

and said softly, “Alright, I’ll get started on the travel plan.”

Elnora nodded.

After Elara left her office, Elnora got up and headed to Reese’s office.

She wanted to give Reese a rundown of her upcoming business trip and the tasks she planned to tackle afterward.

Reese nodded in approval of Elnora’s work plan.

But her gaze lingered on the barely visible red marks on Elnora’s pale neck, and she said softly, “Honestly, you could always push the fieldwork to next month. Give yourself a bit more time to settle in. There’s still a long way to go before the next quarter.”

Reese thought, ‘Their relationship is starting to warm up, and now Elnora’s about to head out on a business trip for nearly two weeks. That’s definitely going to mess with their relationship a bit.’

Elnora caught the hint in Reese’s words and responded without missing a beat, “Getting everything ready ahead of time is the only way to make sure nothing goes wrong.”

Reese’s eyes reflected genuine appreciation.

“Work is important, but don’t push yourself too hard,” she said.

Elnora looked up at Reese, bit her lip, and finally spoke up. “Reese, when I get back from this business trip, there’s something I want to talk to you about. It is about my marriage to Mr. Campbell.”

Reese’s eyes grew serious at Elnora’s words.

“Elnora, is this because of what happened yesterday afternoon?” she asked.

Elnora shook her head.

She said, “No, that’s not it. I’m not the kind of person who can’t handle things or loses patience. I think I’ve found a better way for us to get along.”

Reese took a deep breath and gave a slight nod.

“I understand. If you can’t make peace with Albert, I’ll respect your choice,” she said.

After a long pause, Reese spoke again, “But Elnora, if Albert ever manages to shake off all the mess that’s been clinging to him, I hope you’ll give him another chance, for my sake.”

Elnora lowered her gaze for a moment, then looked back up at Reese

Her voice was barely above a whisper as she said, “Whether there’ll still be something tying us together in the future… That’s up to fate.”

Reese didn’t say anything for a long moment after hearing what Elnora said.

Elnora rose from her seat, her demeanor serene and unhurried.

“Reese, I’ll go back to work now,” she said.

Reese nodded.

“Alright,” she replied.

Elnora made her way out of the office.

“Elnora,” Reese called out as she was at the office door.

Elnora paused and turned to face Reese.

“Is there something else, Reese?”

Reese shook her head

She spoke softly, “Even if you and Albert ever end up apart, Elnora, nothing will change the fact that I’m still your friend.

“I gave that money to the Finley Group because I wanted to. It wasn’t easy getting you healthy again, so please

don’t push yourself too hard because of that money. I don’t want you to wear yourself out over it.”

Elnora froze for a moment, caught off guard by Reese’s words.

She’d expected that after talking about her marriage with Albert today, Reese would treat her differently.

But to her surprise, the first thing Reese was worried about was her health.

Elnora gave a gentle nod.

Her eyes were a little red as she left Reese’s office.

Elnora had always been aloof, rarely letting her emotions show, even when faced with her parents’ broken marriage or all the chaos at home.

Over the past few years, there were only two moments that ever made her eyes turn red with emotion.

The first was right after she was diagnosed with cancer, when the Finley Group was being hounded by the bank for massive debts, and the company was teetering on the edge of liquidation and collapse.

The second time was now. Reese’s genuine concern for her actually struck a chord deep inside.

Elnora barely slept a wink last night. Her mind wouldn’t let her rest.

And today, as she took the initiative to talk to Reese about her marriage with Albert, she couldn’t help but feel

torn up inside.

‘I’m not someone who loses my cool easily, Elnora thought to herself.

But lately, the mess between Albert and Stella had started to get under her skin. She could feel it messing with her emotions, even when she tried to keep it together.

‘I’m not clueless. I know exactly what I expect from Albert, Elnora thought to herself.

On their wedding day, Elnora’s smile was genuine, all the way until Albert left the venue. Even Elara could feel how happy Elnora was.

But now, Elnora refused to let herself be unhappy.
