Chapter 649 Want to Stand Before Him
Chapter 649 Want to Stand Before Him
After hanging up with Ludwig, Elnora walked into the dining room and sat down at the table to eat alone.
Belinda stayed by her side, occasionally moving the dishes closer to Elnora.
Elnora ate quietly.
Before long, the doorbell rang.
Belinda glanced at the clock, puzzled.
‘Who could be visiting this late?’ she wondered.
“Go and check it out,” Elnora said calmly, still eating at her pace.
Belinda nodded and headed out.
A few minutes later, Belinda came back.
She was holding a document folder when she returned.
Elnora saw the folder in Belinda’s hand and asked, “Whose documents are those?”
Belinda was visibly confused.
“The delivery guy didn’t say much. He just confirmed the address several times and dropped it off here,” Belinda replied.
As she spoke, Belinda handed the document folder to Elnora.
Elnora lifted her gaze and glanced at the label on the folder.
She recognized the familiar wrapping.
It was from the international hospital where she’d been treated during her illness.
Elnora opened the bag, expecting it to be her recent health assessment. But when she pulled out the documents, only then did she notice the name written was Stella Taylor.
The moment Elnora saw Stella’s name, she paused in silence. She didn’t read any further, just slipped the papers back into the folder and placed it on the table.
Belinda noticed that Elnora, who had been calm just moments ago, suddenly looked strangely distant after seeing the documents. She couldn’t help but furrow her brows in concern.
“Ms. Finley, is something wrong?” Belinda asked.
She’d also spotted the logo of an international hospital on the folder.
Belinda remembered hearing that Elnora had some health problems before she started working here.
‘Is she sick again?’ Belinda wondered to herself.
Just as Belinda was about to offer some words of comfort, Elnora spoke up, her tone cold and detached.
“When Mr. Campbell gets back, hand these over to him.”
With that, Elnora stood up from her seat and headed upstairs.
Belinda watched Elnora head upstairs, momentarily stunned.
She carefully pulled out the documents and, when she caught sight of the patient’s name, pressed her lips together.
Belinda had been working here for a while now, and she knew a bit about Albert’s past.
Stella Taylor, that was Albert’s ex-girlfriend.
‘No wonder Ms. Finley’s expression changed the moment she saw those documents; Belinda thought.
Belinda let out a quiet sigh, thinking to herself that when things between Elnora and Albert had finally started
to get better, this file might end up making Elnora lose herself all over again.

Chapter 649 Want to Stand Before Him
By the time Albert wrapped up the dinner, it was already past ten at night.
After seeing all the executives off, Wilbur gave Albert a friendly pat on the shoulder and said with a smile,” Albert, you should’ve joined Campbell Group sooner.
“If you’d come on board earlier, the Campbell family wouldn’t have had to hang their heads in their own company.”
Albert heard Wilbur’s words and replied in a flat tone, “Uncle Wilbur, if anyone in the Campbell family had any ability, would they be unable to hold their heads high in their own company?”
A flicker of annoyance crossed Wilbur’s eyes.
Albert remained unfazed, his tone calm as he said, “It’s getting late, Uncle Wilbur. I’m heading home.”
Wilbur quickly offered, “I’ll give you a ride home.”
Albert didn’t even hesitate before turning him down.
“No, thanks, I’ll have my assistant drive me home,” Albert said.
Just as Albert finished speaking, Ludwig pulled the car up right in front of them.
Ludwig got out and opened the door, and Albert slipped into the car without hesitation.
“I’ll get going, Uncle Wilbur,” Albert said.
Wilbur stood there, nodding as he watched Albert’s car pull away.
He kept watching until Albert’s car disappeared from view, then finally turned and got into his own.
Back when Albert wasn’t married, he and Wilbur were pretty close.
But now that he’s tied the knot, he’s grown distant from Wilbur.
Wilbur took a deep breath, feeling a bit disgruntled inside.
‘I can’t let Albert and Elnora get too close. Otherwise, Albert might stop caring about me altogether, Wilbur thought to himself.
With a grim expression, Wilbur pulled out his phone and dialed Stella’s number.
When Stella picked up the call from Wilbur, she felt both surprised and flattered, as she’d suddenly become the
center of attention.
As Ludwig drove away from the restaurant, he glanced in the rearview mirror.
Albert was sitting in the back seat, rubbing his temples.
The guests at tonight’s dinner were all important figures, so Albert couldn’t afford to be careless and had to drink more than usual.
Albert checked his phone, but there were no missed calls or texts from Elnora.
Albert clicked his tongue in annoyance.
‘I’m out here dealing with business dinners, and my wife at home couldn’t care less. She doesn’t even bother to check on me, he thought to himself.
Albert sighed quietly, wondering when Elnora would ever bother to care about him.
Albert opened his chat with Elnora and quickly typed a message.
[Still awake?]
But Elnora didn’t reply.
Albert frowned, his eyes glued to the screen, worried he’d miss her response.
Ludwig glanced back at Albert, who was still glued to his phone. Remembering what had happened to Elnora earlier, he spoke up softly, “Mr. Campbell, there was a bit of an incident at the Campbell Group entrance when Ms. Finley was leaving work today.

“Wendelin ran up and dumped a cup of coffee on her, apparently trying to stand up for Stella.”
Albert’s grip on his phone tightened, his voice icy as he snapped, “Why are you only telling me this now?” Ludwig was rattled by Albert’s cold, piercing stare. He pulled the car over right away, turned to Albert, and explained, “As soon as I heard, I was about to go into the private room and let you know.
“But Mr. Wilbur stopped me outside and said, no matter how urgent it was, everything had to wait until after the dinner.”
Albert’s eyes were cold and sharp, locked on Ludwig with a hostile edge.
“Did you forget who signs your paycheck?” Albert snapped.
Ludwig lowered his head.
He said, “I made the best call I could at the time.
“If you’d left the dinner after hearing about Ms. Finley, it would’ve stirred up trouble for Campbell Group.
“Ms. Finley is the CEO of Campbell Group now, so any problems that come up will be handled by her. That’s why…”
Albert rubbed his temples, his expression icy as he said in a harsh tone, “Looks like you’re pretty unfazed.”
Ludwig replied, “If Ms. Finley had been there, she’d have kept her cool, too.”
Albert’s expression darkened, realizing Ludwig was throwing Ms. Finley’s name back at him.
“Are you looking for trouble?” Albert snapped.
Ludwig gave an awkward smile and hurried to explain, “I actually called Ms. Finley right away to check in on her as soon as I got the news. Ms. Finley’s alright. Nothing serious happened.”
Albert took a deep breath, his voice icy as he snapped, “Just drive already.”
‘All I want right now is to be with Elnora,’ Albert thought, his impatience barely contained.
