I woke up slowly, blinking at the ceiling. My body felt heavy and sore in the best way.

I turned my head and saw Damien still fast asleep beside me, chest rising and falling, one arm thrown over his eyes.

Everything from last night came rushing back at once.

“Oh my God,” I whispered to myself, sitting up.

I raked my fingers through my messy hair and stared at him. He had said he loved me. My cheeks burned just thinking about it.

I slipped out of bed quietly, my legs were a little shaky, and grabbed some clean clothes. I needed a shower badly.

I walked to the bathroom and turned the water on hot. As soon as the steam filled the room I stepped in and let the water run over my head.

I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I blushed hard, pressing my forehead against the tile. “This is so fucked,” I muttered. “He said he loves me and then he fucked me like that. What the hell am I supposed to do with that?”

I washed my hair slowly, replaying every touch, every sound he made.

My face stayed hot the whole time. I laughed a little under the water, embarrassed but still tingling.

I stayed in the shower longer than I needed to, just letting the memories run through my head.

When I finally turned the water off I dried off fast and pulled on a hoodie and leggings.

My cheeks were still pink when I walked back into the bedroom.

Damien was gone. The bed was empty. I looked around, frowning. “Where did he go?”

I started tidying up the room, picking up the clothes we threw on the floor last night. I folded his shirt and placed it on the chair.

My hands kept moving, nervous energy making me straighten the pillows and smooth the blanket. I touched my belly without thinking. “I’m literally carrying a werewolf’s child right now and I’m falling in love with a hot werewolf. What is my life?”

The door opened. Damien walked in carrying a tray with breakfast, toast, eggs, fruit, coffee. He set it on the table like nothing had happened. His face was blank again.

I stood there awkwardly, raking my fingers through my damp hair, “thank you for breakfast.”

He nodded once and sat down, “eat.”

I sat across from him, picking at the toast. My stomach was full of butterflies. I kept glancing at him, trying to find the right words, “about yesterday…”

Before I could finish, the door burst open. A guard rushed in, breathing hard, “Alpha! There’s an emergency at the east border.”

Damien stood up fast, his jaw was tight. “What happened?”

The guard looked nervous, “we need you out there now.”

Damien nodded once before turning to look at me, “I have to leave.”

I stood up too, still holding the piece of toast. “Wait, what about-”

He was already walking to the door. The door shut behind him.

I stood there alone, heart racing, the room suddenly too quiet. I touched my belly again and whispered, “What the hell are we supposed to do now?”

I stayed there for a while with my hand still on my belly, staring at the closed door like maybe he would walk right back in and finish the conversation he had barely started. My chest felt tight. I actually couldn’t believe he was gone again, running toward danger like none of it had happened. I pressed my lips together and let out a shaky breath. What the fuck was last night even

I walked to the mirror and stared at my reflection, brushing my fingers through my hair again and again like that would somehow fix the mess in my head.

My cheeks were still pink. My mouth still looked swollen from last night. I looked like someone who had just had her whole life turned upside down and had no clue what came next. “Okay,” I whispered to myself, gripping the edge of the table. “What now? What exactly am I supposed to do now?”

I started moving again because standing still was making me spiral.

I picked up a brush, fixed my hair, then changed my hoodie twice before settling on the first one.

I sat on the edge of the bed for a second, then stood right back up and started pacing.

Every few steps my hand drifted to my stomach. I kept thinking about the baby, about Damien, about the way he had looked at me when he said those words.

Was anything actually different now? Was he going to come back and act like nothing happened again? Was I supposed to pretend I was fine with that?

I walked to the window and pulled the curtain aside with two fingers.

Guards were moving across the yard below, some of them running, some shifting orders back and forth. Whatever had happened at the east border had everyone tense.

I swallowed hard and leaned my forehead against the glass for a second. “Please be okay,” I murmured, closing my eyes. Then I pushed away from the window, straightened my clothes again, and forced myself to breathe slower when footsteps finally started coming toward the room.

I checked the door three different times, then laughed at myself and rubbed my face with both hands.

I was nervous, excited, confused, and way too aware of every sound outside. By then my heart was already racing before anyone even walked in.

I stood in the middle of the room after I finished getting ready.

I had taken forever fixing my hair and changing my clothes and after a while the door opened.

I turned fast, my smile getting bigger. I ran toward him, my heart racing. “Damien! You’re back. Are you okay? What happened out there? Tell me everything. I was so worried-”

I stopped dead.

It wasn’t Damien.

Kade stood in the doorway, scarred face blank, eyes locked on me.

My smile dropped instantly. I took a step back. “What are you doing here?”

He didn’t answer. He stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

I backed up more, heart pounding. “Kade, get out. You’re not supposed to be in here.”

He kept walking toward me, slow and steady.

“Stop,” I said, voice shaking. “What the hell do you want? Damien’s going to lose his mind if he finds you in here.”

He didn’t stop. I kept moving back until my back hit the wall. I had nowhere else to go.

He closed the distance in two steps and pinned me to the wall with his body, one hand on my shoulder, the other beside my head.

I pushed against his chest. “Get off me! What are you doing?”

He leaned in close, his voice low. “You’re a human, aren’t you?”
