Chapter 60

My whole body locked up. The words slammed into me like a truck.

My stomach dropped so fast I thought I was going to be sick. I stared at him, mouth open, trying to make my brain work.

The room felt like it was spinning. My heart was pounding so loud in my ears it hurt.

My shoulders locked so ha they hurt, and my fingers curled against the wall behind me.

What the fuck did he just say?

I couldn’t breathe right. My mind was racing in circles. How does he know? How the hell does he know? I didn’t tell anyone. Damien didn’t tell anyone. My legs felt weak. I took a small step back and my back hit the wall hard.

I kept staring at his mouth like maybe I had heard wrong, but the look in his eyes made my stomach twist harder.

Kade watched me, that evil little smile still on his face.

His body stayed too close to mine, and I could feel the heat coming off him. It made my skin crawl.

I snapped.

My hand flew up and slapped him hard across the face.

The sound cracked loud in the room. His head jerked to the side. He touched his cheek slowly, eyes wide for half a second.

For one second my palm stung, and honestly I was glad it did. It gave me something else to focus on.

“You’re insane,” I said, voice shaking but loud. “You’ve been hating on me since day one, calling me weak. calling me fake, and now you’re making up random stories just to prove some stupid point? What the hell is wrong with you?”

My chest was rising so hard it almost hurt. I pointed at him with a shaking finger.

He stared at me, still holding his face.

I stepped forward, anger making my voice louder. “First you drag me out here like I’m your property, then you kiss me against my will, and now you’re accusing me of being human? You’re delusional, Kade You’ve been pushing me and pushing me and I’m done. I’m so fucking done with your bullshit. This is the last time you come for me. Do you understand? The last time.”

I was almost in his face by then, my hands opening and closing at my sides.

He lowered his hand. His cheek was red where I slapped him. He didn’t look angry. He looked surprised.

I stared at him like I wanted him to say something back, but he just stood there taking it.

I kept going, breathing fast. “You think you can just say whatever you want and I’ll fall apart? You think I’m weak? I’m standing right here telling you to back the fuck off. I’m carrying Damien’s pup. How could a fucking human carry a pup? You’re just some bitter asshole who can’t let go of the past. So stay the hell away from me.”

Kade didn’t say anything. He just turned around and walked out of the room.

I stood there for a second, chest heaving. Then I grabbed my hoodie and left too. I needed air. I needed to get away from him.

I threw my hoodie over my shoulder and yanked the door open harder than I needed to.

I walked down the hallway fast. My hands were still shaking. I turned the corner and bumped straight into Alice.

My steps were uneven, and I kept rubbing my damp palms against my jeans.

She stopped. “Hey, Sienna. You okay?”

She reached out like she might touch my arm, then stopped when she saw my face.

I didn’t even look at her. I kept walking past her without saying a word.

Alice turned to watch me go but didn’t say anything else. She knew something was up. I could feel it.

I went straight back to the bedroom and shut the door. I leaned against it, trying to calm down. My mind was still spinning. Kade knowing. Kade touching me. Kade saying all that crazy shit. I raked my fingers through my hair and slid down to the floor.

I shoved both hands into my hair and bent forward for a second, trying to slow my breathing.

The door opened again a few minutes later.

My whole body tensed at the sound, and my hand flew straight to my chest.

I jumped up fast, heart racing, thinking it was Kade coming back.

It was Damien.

He walked in and closed the door behind him. He looked tired but calm.

I searched his face for a second longer, making sure it was really him standing there.

I let out a shaky breath and put my hand on my chest. “Oh my god, you scared me. I really thought you left me there for a second.”

He looked at me, eyebrows pulled together slightly. “Of course I would never leave you.”

The panic sat in my chest, sharp and ugly, making it hard to speak.

I nodded, still trying to calm down. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

He walked over to the table and set down a small bag. I watched him, still feeling the panic from earlier 1 wanted to tell him everything that just happened with Kade, but the words got stuck.

He moved like nothing was wrong, calm and steady, while I stood there trying to get myself together.

I licked my lips, looked down at our hands, then back up at him with furrowed eyebrows.

I dragged in a breath, rubbed his hand once, and tried to ignore how badly the memory of Kade still rattled

I took a deep breath. “Damien… what was the emergency and-”

Before I could finish, he took my hand.

“I’m going to take you out,” he said.

I blinked. “Wait, what?”

He squeezed my hand once. “Come with me.”
