Chapter 198 

Ellie’s POV 

I woke early the next morning, planning to slip out of the house before anyone noticed for the third day in a 

row. 

By today, however, Dominic had begun to notice my routine. The sun hadn’t even come up by the time I left my room, and yet he was already there, waiting by the front door with his arms folded across his chest 

1 stopped halfway down the stairs, my fingers curling around the railing, For a few moments that felt like an eternity, neither of us spoke. 

Then, holding my head high, I calmly walked down the rest of the way and came to stop in front of him. 

“Excuse me,” I said. 

He arched a brow. “Going somewhere?” 

“I was planning on it, yes.” 

Dominic looked at me for a few seconds. “Ellie, you can’t leave today.’ 

“I can actually do whatever I want to do, thanks.” 

“Sure you can. But this comes first.” He pulled a packet of papers out from behind his back and waved them in my face. The contract. “You made a promise to act as a Luna when you signed this contract. And ever since the wedding, you haven’t been doing that.” 

“Well, Vivian is filling in for me anyway, so…” I tried to move past him, but he stepped into my way so quickly that my nose bumped against his chest. I went to take a step back, only for his arm to shoot out and wrap around my waist, pulling me close again. 

“Ellie.” 

I flushed, pushing against his chest. “Let me go.” 

“Ellie.”

The sensation of Dominic’s voice slipping into my mind through the bond we shared was like having silk tipped claws scratch the inside of my brain. It made me shiver, and for a moment, I instinctually leaned into 

him. 

His arm tightened around me as I looked up at him. His expression was still hard, brooking no argument, but his eyes – those damn eyes were soft in the way he used to look at me. 

Or at least, the way I thought he used to look at me Before I realized that it was all bullshit 

“I have studying to do,” I said quietly. 

“I understand that. But you’ve spent the past two days at the academy, from sunrise to sunset. You’re overworking yourself; I can tell.” 

My lips tightened. “I’m fine.” 

30 Bompt 

Dominic huffed softly, and before I could stop him, he reached up and touched my face. His palm was warm, and I wanted to lean into it against my better judgment. His thumb dragged gently across the space under 

my eye. 

“You have dark circles,” he whispered. “Please stay home today, Ellie.” 

I didn’t respond for a moment. His touch was tender and comforting, and every instinct in me wanted to press closer to him, to feel his warmth and familiarity. And for a second, I almost did. 

It would have been so easy, too. To fall back into that routine. That comfortable pull of the bond between us The attraction. 

But I’d made up my mind, and this time, I wasn’t going back on it. 

I pushed away, putting distance between us. 

“I need to go,” I said. 

Dominic’s eyes flashed. He didn’t move out of the way. “I won’t let you.” 

“What?” 

“We have an important meeting today,” he said. “Some other pack Alphas are coming to discuss trade agreements. I need you there. It’ll look bad for the pack if your sister is in your place.” 

I ground my teeth together, but the look in his eyes was no longer soft and tender. He really wasn’t going to let me leave. 

Fine. I’d stay for his meeting. But I wasn’t going to make it pleasant. 

Around noon, the other Alphas arrived for the meeting. I emerged from my room in a comfortable pink tracksuit that I normally only wore when I was lounging around the house. It made me stick out like a sore thumb against the business-appropriate suits and pencil skirts, and when Dominic saw me coming, I could already see the frustration mounting.
