Chapter 199Â
I took a seat at the table, Spinning lazily in my chair as the meeting began.Â
“Ellie,” Dominic said, shooting me a look, “would you mind taking notes?”Â
“Certainly, Master.” I grinned and grabbed a notebook.and a pen. Dominic stared at me, as did everyone else in the room.Â
“Master?” someone repeated. I just winked at them and began to scribble in my notebook.Â
Dominic sighed and shook his head, turning to the projector. “Let’s begin, Last time you were all here, we discussed matters concerning the damaged roadway in the north, which inhibited import of fine metals until it was cleared…”Â
Pop.Â
Everyone looked at me. I snapped my gum back into my mouth.Â
Dominic’s eyes narrowed, but he kept talking.Â
“Recently, there was another road closure up that way, so I’m proposing that we permanently shift our routes, avoiding that stretch altogether…”Â
Popopop.Â
Dominic whipped his head toward me. “Ellie, is the gum necessary?”Â
“I mean, I forgot to brush my teeth, so yeah…”Â
A couple of chuckles rippled through the room. Dominic already looked like he was trying to decide whether to throttle me or not, which was exactly what I was hoping for.Â
However, I didn’t expect him to turn to me and say, “Actually, Ellie, why don’t you lead the presentation?”Â
I stiffened. That took me by surprise. I’d hoped he would just kick me out before I embarrassed him further, just like dinner last night. But the way he was looking at me indicated that he knew exactly what I was up to, and he wasn’t going to let me get off that easily.Â
Well, two could play at this game.Â

“Sure!” I said, popping up from my seat. I sauntered over to the projector and clicked to the next slide. “HmÂ
Okay. So, onto the next… Wait, what’s that word say?”Â
Dominic stared at me. “Ellie, you’re joking, right?”Â
I shook my head and pushed my lower lip out. “Sorry I can’t read as well as you, Dominic. I tend to miss things. Important things. Like, life-changing things. Such as clauses in contracts.” I shot him a meaningful look, and the others in the room shifted uncomfortably in their seats.Â
Dominic passed his hand over his face. He sent me back to my seat after that, although he didn’t let me leave like I’d hoped. Throughout the remainder of the meeting, I mostly just doodled in my notebook.Â
By the end of the meeting, I was at least halfway certain that he wouldn’t make me attend another one again. I tried to slip away once the other Alphas left, but Dominic caught me by the wrist, pulling me back.Â

“Ellie,” he hissed, “what the hell was that?”Â
“What do you mean? Did humiliate you?”Â
“Not just me. The entire pack.” He sighed heavily.””Ellie, I thought you would be cut out for this kind of work. In fact, I know you are. Why are you being like this?”Â
“I’m not being like anything.” I pulled my arm away. “If you don’t like the way I do things, then divorce me.”Â
There it was again. That word: divorce. It seemed to shoot through Dominic, turning his face pale. I held my breath, waiting, hoping for him to just fucking do it and get it over with.Â
But he didn’t. Once again, he remained completely silent. And this time, he was the one to walk away without a word.Â
I watched him go, noticing the tension in his shoulders. For a moment, just a moment, I almost felt bad for saying it.Â
But once he was gone, I shook my head, dispelling the thoughts. I grabbed my things and left, taking the opportunity to go to the academy before anyone expected anything else of me.Â
