Chapter 211 A Public Challenge
“If you have evidence, present it. If not, then leave immediately, or I will sue you for slander.”
Yvonne was left speechless.

She quickly composed herself and offered a new line of suspicion. “Even if Tracy didn’t see the paper, someone could have told her the questions so she could prepare in advance! I hope Mr. Waylon will investigate this thoroughly and give us a reasonable explanation. Otherwise, the other candidates will not be satisfied.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Tracy said, stepping forward. “Ms. Xander, to prove my innocence, let’s have the proctors create a new test on the spot. We will take it right now, in front of everyone. If my score is lower than yours, I will admit to cheating and apologize publicly. How about it?”
Today, Yvonne and Chase were determined to destroy her. No matter what Waylon said, they would just use gaslighting to twist the situation. Rather than waste time arguing, it was better to do something practical that would convince the crowd.
Yvonne glanced at Tracy and smiled. “Fine.”
She refused to believe Tracy could beat her in a live test. This was her only chance to crush Tracy, and she couldn’t miss it. Tracy had foolishly, arrogantly served up this opportunity herself. It would be a waste not to take it.
Tracy smiled back. “But I have one condition. If your score is lower than mine, you will apologize to me in public. Deal?”
She knew exactly what Yvonne was thinking. Yvonne looked down on her and was certain she would lose. Because of that, she would agree to any terms Tracy proposed.
Just as she expected, Yvonne agreed without hesitation. “Fine. Just don’t forget what you promised.”
She was certain Tracy was going to lose this time. You walked into this trap all on your own. Don’t blame me for what happens next.
Waylon and the proctor went over to the desk to confer and prepare the new questions.
Chase snorted. “Tracy, you are finished this time. You really don’t know when to quit! A mere undergraduate from an ordinary university, and you actually think you can compete with a doctoral student from Northville University? You are completely overestimating yourself. I’m advising you to apologize right now, accept your punishment, and then go home and sleep it off. Don’t come out and embarrass yourself any further.”

His thinking was the same as Yvonne’s. They were both convinced Tracy was going to lose. After all, Tracy hadn’t studied seriously in years, while Yvonne had always been the family’s pride. To still think she could compete with her was truly delusional.
Tracy shot Chase a cold look. “What? Does your face not hurt anymore? Do you want to be hit again?”
Chase instinctively touched his swollen cheek. Though he felt a flash of fear, he still shot back, “Don’t get cocky, Tracy. When the test results come out, let’s see if you’re still smiling. It’s one thing to disgrace yourself, but if you disgrace the Xander family, I won’t let you off.”
Yvonne smiled and leaned in, whispering to Tracy, “It’s fine. Just do your best. It doesn’t matter if the results aren’t ideal. You’ll just be admitting the truth. That shouldn’t be too hard for you, right?”
She had no desire to admit Tracy was her sister in front of all these people, much less that they were part of the Xander family. That was why she’d lowered her voice.
Tracy looked at her coldly. “Weren’t you the one just confidently telling everyone you’d take first place? How does it feel to be proven wrong?”
Yvonne choked on her words.
But she quickly put her arrogant mask back on. “You’d better pray your luck holds out. Otherwise, being humiliated a second time is going to hurt!”
She was just a paper tiger, all talk. She was nothing to be afraid of.
Tracy’s lips curled into a cold smile. “We don’t know who’s going to be humiliated yet. You shouldn’t speak too soon. You might end up trying to back out or find another way to morally blackmail everyone. You two have really gone to great lengths to try and destroy me. It must have been so difficult for you.
“But no matter how much you try to use gaslighting, you can’t change the truth. The truth always holds up, after all. Am I right?”
She was going to win today. She would not give the Xander family another chance to destroy her.
Just then, Waylon returned, holding two newly printed exam papers. He handed one to each of them.
He looked pointedly at them, “The exam starts now. You will sit on opposite sides of the room. That way, there can be no suspicion of copying, correct?”
Although he spoke to both of them, his eyes were fixed on Yvonne. This woman was incredibly disruptive.

And, he had to admit, she was smart. She wielded gaslighting with an expert hand, as if she’d done it many times before.
