Chapter 270 Memory Loss

The lingering gloom from earlier vanished in an instant. Sean gripped her slender waist, his movements aggressive and urgent, as if he intended to consume her whole.
That night, Tracy learned exactly how dangerous a man’s jealousy could be. Because she hadn’t immediately shut down Norman’s joke at the gala, Sean had been seething. Once they were home, he made her pay for it, only letting up when she finally began to beg for mercy.
The next morning, a call from Lily woke her. “Tracy, it’s a good thing you talked to Morgan. He went to see your grandmother yesterday. She hasn’t fully woken up yet, but I heard that shortly after he went in, she showed signs of stirring. We’re just waiting to see if she pulls through now.”
Tracy glanced at the snack in her hand. “That’s the best news I’ve heard. I’m just glad he finally let go of that grudge. If Gran recovers, we can actually spend time with her and make up for all those lost years.”
It was a start. Everything was finally moving in the right direction.
“Morgan was a mess when he got back,” Lily said, her voice thick with emotion. “He said if she wakes up, he’ll never stay angry with her again. Your brother had to sit with him for hours just to calm him down. I think he finally realizes how much time he wasted.”
After hanging up, Tracy finished her breakfast and drove to the office. The new project proposal was in full swing, and the team was working around the clock. Despite the exhaustion, the atmosphere was electric; no one had let the recent departures dampen their spirits.
The day started with a strategy meeting to iron out the remaining technical hurdles. Tracy took the lead, standing before the large screen to break down the core issues. The team watched in rapt attention, whispering their approval. Her expertise was undeniable, and with every presentation, their respect for her
grew.
Over the next few days, Tracy practically lived at the office. She managed to visit the hospital a few times, but Sarah’s condition remained bleak. Her grandmother drifted in and out of consciousness, struggling even to keep her eyes open.
It was agonizing to watch. When Tracy pressed the doctors for a more hopeful prognosis, the answer remained unchanged.
“Your grandmother’s state is actually better than expected,” the doctor explained. “She’s conscious and aware, she just lacks the strength to speak. It’s frustrating for her, so try to avoid saying anything that might upset her. At this stage, her heart can’t take much stress. Just try to keep her happy and fulfill whatever wishes she might have.”
The subtext was clear she was essentially a prisoner in her own body, and they were just making her comfortable.
After the morning session wrapped up, Sam asked Tracy to stay behind. He produced two crimson invitation cards and slid them across the table.
“Xander Corp is launching their project tomorrow,” Sam said with a cold laugh. “They actually had the nerve to invite us to the gala. They’re making a huge production out of it. Do you want to go?”

Tracy gathered her files into a neat stack. “Why wouldn’t we? If we skip it, they’ll just think we’re hiding. I want to see exactly how much of our source code they used and if they were clever enough to add any original ideas of their own.”
Yvonne lacked raw talent, but she was an expert at rearranging existing resources. Her previous work was just a slight iteration of the AI diagnostic system from four years ago. This new project was supposed to be a streamlined upgrade.
If Yvonne had simply copy-pasted Tracy’s original code, she was heading for total professional ruin. Between the plagiarism and her criminal record, she was looking at a long time behind bars.
Sam nodded in agreement. “Then we’ll go and see what kind of a show they’re putting on. By the way, I heard Morgan was discharged. I’d like to go see him with you after work.”
He had been too buried in the investigation to visit Morgan while he was hospitalized. Now that the pressure had eased, he wanted to pay his respects.
“He’d love that,” Tracy said. “He’ll be happy to see you.”
While Yvonne was finalizing the launch details, Chase finally woke up. However, his memory was a fractured mess.
When he opened his eyes and saw Yvonne sitting by his bed, he winced, reaching up to touch the heavy bandages on his head. “Yvonne? What… what happened to me?”
