Chapter 275 Reaping the Whirlwind

The crowd’s doubts lingered, but since Waylon himself was standing there and saying nothing, they kept their mouths shut. In their eyes, as long as the check cleared, they were happy to close their eyes and ride the co-profit wave.
Investment offers began to pour in, company after company pledging different amounts.
Waylon watched Yvonne from the back of the room. She stood on stage lying through her teeth without breaking a sweat, but he was in no rush to expose her. He had only emailed Tracy about the contract signing; he hadn’t sent a single word to Yvonne.
The higher she pumped herself up now, the harder she would hit the ground. He wasn’t going to let her have her way.
Tracy walked over to him with a calm smile. “What are you doing here?”
She hadn’t seen him earlier and assumed he’d skipped the event. She hadn’t expected him to show up at such an awkward moment.
Waylon smiled back. “I’m starting to wonder what you’ve got hidden up your sleeve, Tracy. You’re making us wait until Friday for the payoff, but I have to hand it to you. Your composure is something else. Most people couldn’t stand here and watch someone else parade around with their work, taking investment money on a lie.”
He knew exactly why the Xander Corp was rushing this launch. They wanted to beat Vector Tech to market. If Vector Tech released their project second, they’d be the ones branded as the plagiarizers.
Once the contract was signed, the Xanders intended to nail Tracy to a pillar of shame forever. It was a vicious, calculated move. Yvonne was proving herself to be truly depraved.
Tracy just laughed softly. “I’ll take that as a compliment. Let them be happy for now; it only makes the fall worse. I actually have to thank Yvonne for doing the legwork. She’s helping me weed out the opportunists. Business is business, but I have no use for people who blow whichever way the wind is strongest.”
She didn’t care about those fair-weather investors. With the support of the Johnsons and the Quinns, Vector Tech was set. The Xanders and the Gaunts were the ones headed for a wreck, and they had no one to blame but themselves. They had put all their chips on Yvonne while treating Tracy like an enemy.
Waylon nodded in approval. “I didn’t misjudge you. You’ve handled this perfectly. If you hadn’t seen this coming, you’d be walking straight into their trap right now. I’m looking forward to Friday. I have a feeling you won’t disappoint me.”
Tracy didn’t say anything. She looked at Yvonne, who was still basking in the glow of the spotlights, and she could already picture her in a prison uniform.

As the press conference wound down, Tracy and Sam made their exit. They had seen enough. They’d only come because the Xanders had been so insistently shameless about the invitation, and Tracy had needed to confirm a few things.

After seeing the presentation, Tracy knew the new project inside and out. She didn’t even need to gather more evidence; she had enough to bury Yvonne right now.
When she reached the parking garage, she saw Sean leaning against his car. He looked bored, like he was waiting for someone.
Tracy waved as she walked by. “Sean? Are you waiting for someone?”
Sean looked
up, his eyes locking onto hers. “Yeah. You.”
“Me?” Tracy looked at him, confused. “What for?” Usually, she was the one waiting on him. He didn’t seem like the type to have this much free time.
“What do you think?” Sean pulled her toward him, pinning her against the car in one fluid motion. He leaned in, his lips hovering just inches from hers.
“Don’t do this here,” Tracy whispered, her face heating up instantly.
A car pulled into a nearby spot, and Tracy’s heart nearly leaped out of her chest. “Stop, someone’s coming! What if they see us?”
“Let them look,” Sean teased, though he pulled back enough to let her breathe. He reached into the car and handed her a thick manila envelope.
Tracy took it, feeling the weight of the documents inside. “What’s this?”
“Take a look.”
Tracy opened the envelope and scanned the first few pages. Her eyes widened. It was evidence; documented proof that her uncle had been framed years ago. Finally, she could clear his name. Between this and the evidence she’d gathered on Faye and Yvonne, their time was officially up.
