She was waiting for Friday. That was the day she would tear their lives apart and make sure they spent the rest of their lives rotting in a cage.
But before she could get there, the news broke her. Her grandmother was gone. A doctor had messed up the medication, and instead of fixing it, the coward covered his tracks and vanished. Because he ran, she didn’t get the help she needed in time. It was a senseless, preventable death.
It happened on Tuesday, but Tracy didn’t get the call until Wednesday and was just in time to rush to the crematorium for a final goodbye.
The whole thing felt wrong. It was too sudden, too convenient. Tracy couldn’t take it; she collapsed over the body, sobbing until she had nothing left. Morgan showed up with the rest of the family to pay their respects. Jackson just stood there with a strange, unreadable look in his eyes, but he didn’t shed a single tear.
When it was time to move the body to the furnace, Lily pulled the hysterical girl away. “Tracy, let her go. You can’t bring her back. You have to find a way to move on.”
Tracy caught a glimpse of Faye and her daughter. They kept their heads down, hiding their faces. It didn’t matter. She could feel it in her bones that they were behind this.
On the day of the funeral, standing under a miserable drizzle, Tracy made a vow at the grave. She wasn’t going to stop until she uncovered every single detail and gave her grandmother a proper answer.
By the time she got back to the apartment, she was running on empty. She collapsed onto the sofa, the weight of being truly alone finally hitting her. The only person she had left in the world was gone.
Then Sean called. “I know you haven’t eaten. Open the door; I’ve got food.”
Tracy wanted to tell him to go away. Her stomach was in knots and she couldn’t imagine eating, but she didn’t have the strength to fight him. She dragged herself to the door.
He took one look at her. She was barefoot, pale, and looking like a ghost and led her back inside. As he started unpacking the bags, she just shook her head. “You eat. I can’t. Nothing will stay down.”
She was drowning in guilt. She’d spent so much time fighting Yvonne that she’d failed the one person who mattered. The doctors had said there was more time, but she’d been snatched away without a chance to say a word. Every time she thought about it, it felt like a knife twisting in her gut. She blamed herself for being too slow, for giving those monsters the chance to strike.
Sean set a file on the table. “Eat something, and I’ll show you what I found. Look at yourself.

To The Truth Behind the Tragedy
You’re in no state to take anyone down like this.”
Tracy’s head snapped up. She reached for the folder. “You found something? It wasn’t an accident?”

The mention of the truth was like a shot of adrenaline. Sean was right; she had to be the one to finish this. She was exhausted, but the need for revenge was the only thing keeping her upright.
“Eat first, or you don’t see it,” Sean said, moving the file out of reach.
“Fine.”
She sat down, but as she reached for the food, he swapped it for a warm drink. “Start with this. You haven’t eaten in a day; your stomach won’t handle a heavy meal yet.”
She looked at him, feeling a rare flash of gratitude. “Thank you.”
As the warmth hit her stomach, the hollow ache started to fade. In her worst moment, she was glad he was there. She couldn’t afford to break down; that’s exactly what those people wanted.
Sean finally pushed the documents over. “It wasn’t an accident. They brought a will to the ward and forced her thumbprint onto it while she was fading. Then they paid to have the whole thing swept under the rug as a medical error. We caught the guy they used, and he spilled everything. It’s all here. You can pull the trigger whenever you’re ready.”
Tracy’s hands shook as she looked at the names in the file. She was vibrating with rage. For a few shares, they’d actually murdered an old woman. If she had just ended Yvonne sooner, none of this would have happened.
Yvonne and Faye. She was going to destroy them both.
She gripped the papers until they wrinkled. “Tomorrow,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “Tomorrow, I take everything from them. I’m going to make sure they never see the sun again.”
