The memory hit her all at once. She had kissed Jackson, and then she had vomited all over him. It was a disaster. Whatever image she had tried to build in front of him was completely dead.
She grabbed her hair and smacked her forehead in frustration. She had made a total fool of herself.
Tracy walked in with a glass of honey water. “Get up and drink this. Hangovers are the worst. Does your head still hurt?”
Hearing her friend’s familiar voice, Natalie bolted upright. She looked at Tracy in shock. “How did I end up at your place?”
Tracy shoved the glass into her hand. “You were wasted. My brother didn’t know where you lived and he didn’t want to leave you alone, so he brought you to me. Why were you out drinking that late anyway? And why did you call him? Is there something going on between you two?”
Tracy was looking for a story. Natalie had liked Jackson for years, but Morgan and Lily had mentioned they arranged a blind date for Jackson, and it was supposed to happen this morning.
If that date went well, Natalie wouldn’t have a chance. It didn’t make sense that Jackson would go out in the middle of the night to pick up a drunk Natalie. He was being so difficult. She wished he would just be straightforward for once.
Natalie took a sip and grabbed Tracy’s arm. “Did your brother say anything to you?”
Tracy looked at her, puzzled. “What would he say to me?”
“Nothing. It’s nothing.” Natalie’s face went red and she looked away.
It was better if he hadn’t said anything. If Tracy found out, she’d never hear the end of it. It was too embarrassing.
Tracy knew how Natalie acted when she was nervous. She only behaved this way when she felt uneasy. She decided to mess with her. “You didn’t use the booze as an excuse to confess and force a kiss on him, did you?”
It was just a casual joke, but Natalie’s face turned a darker shade of red. She looked completely cornered.
“No way!” Natalie snapped. “I meant to call Bryan. I must have dialed your brother by mistake. That’s why he brought me here.”
Natalie’s head was hanging so low it almost touched her chest. Tracy knew she was lying. Something had definitely happened last night or Natalie wouldn’t be acting this way.
But Tracy didn’t push. Natalie was clearly dying of embarrassment and it was rude to keep digging. She pointed to the phone on the bed that had been ringing non-stop. “Your phone has been going off. Why aren’t you answering?”
Natalie checked it. It was her mother. She picked up.
Marie’s voice was gentle. “Natalie, I heard from your aunt that your blind date is already waiting at the cafe.

She said she’s been trying to call you but you didn’t pick up, so she called me. Since he’s already there, you should at least go out of politeness.”
Natalie rubbed her aching head. “I don’t want to go.”
She hadn’t even agreed to this and her aunt already had the guy waiting. Lana was doing everything she could to drag her into the mud. The worst part was how she pretended to be “caring,” and her parents bought into her lies.
has Marie kept at it. “I know you don’t want to, but Lana meant well. Just go and get it over with. The guy been waiting a long time. It’s not right to stand him up.”
Natalie’s head was pounding. “Fine, I get it,” she said dismissively.
She hung up and got out of bed. She looked at Tracy. “If you aren’t busy today, come with me to this blind date”
“What?” Tracy stared at her. “You’re actually going?”
Jackson just brought her home and now both of them were heading to blind dates. Tracy didn’t get it. If they liked each other, why were they doing this? Both of them were so stubborn it was painful to watch.
Natalie looked miserable. “My aunt took it upon herself to set this up. I said no, but she sent him cafe anyway. My parents think it would be rude to blow him off since we’re family. I’m just goin it and leave. I’m not changing my mind about who I like.”
She promised Tracy she wasn’t looking for someone else. She had liked Jackson for years, but it was a secret she had kept buried for a long time.
