way she had given Leon everything was probably just her trying to fill an emotional void. She had truly expected to spend her life with him, but things didn’t go as planned. He had changed, or maybe he never loved her at all. Perhaps she was just a placeholder for Susan the entire time.
None of that mattered now. Once you pay the price for your own stupidity, you have to move forward.
Tracy gave a reluctant nod. “Fine, I’ll go with you.”
While Natalie went to get ready, Tracy sent a text to Sean. “I can’t bring you lunch today. I’ve got big things to do. I have to keep an eye on my future sister-in-law.”
Meanwhile at the Cafe.
When Natalie and Tracy walked in, they immediately spotted Jackson sitting by the window. He was sitting across from a polished, well-dressed girl. They were talking and laughing, looking like they were having a great time.
Natalie looked down, hiding the pain in her eyes. Just then, a man started waving at them from across
room.
He was wearing a decent suit and looked presentable enough. Tracy pulled a distracted Natalie over to the table.
The man stood up and pulled out a chair for Natalie with a polite smile. “Hello, I’m Jordan Jones. Your aunt talks about you all the time. Since this is our first meeting, I brought you a gift. I hope you like it.”
Jordan handed her a rose that was already wilting. He didn’t even try to hide the look of sheer greed in his eyes as he looked at her. Lana had told him Natalie was a daughter of the Sand family. If he married her, he’d be set for life.
He had been waiting for nearly two hours, but seeing her made it feel worth it. He was confident he could make her fall for him.
Natalie took the rose out of politeness, but the way he looked at her made her skin crawl. Who brings a dying flower to a first date? The man was clearly a cheapskate.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Natalie,” she said, reaching out to shake his hand.
Jordan’s gaze turned even more predatory as they touched. He looked at her like she was a piece of meat he was ready to devour. Natalie quickly pulled her hand back and sat down, fighting the urge to gag.
A waiter came over, and she ordered coffees for herself and Tracy. While Jordan wasn’t looking, she dropped the rose into the trash and used a napkin to scrub her hand.
Jordan then turned his focus to Tracy. He thought she was actually better looking than Natalie; it would be nice to have a go with her too.
Tracy felt her skin crawl under his stare, but she stayed put for Natalie’s sake. She stirred her coffee and

asked casually, “So, what do you do for a living?”

Jordan straightened his suit, looking proud. “I’m a department manager at Johnson Corp.”
Getting into Johnson Corp was hard enough, let alone reaching management. He expected the two women to be impressed, but Tracy just went silent. The awkward pause left Jordan confused. Did they not realize how successful he was?
Remembering Lana’s advice about the Sand fortune, he turned his attention back to Natalie. “What are you looking for in a partner?”
Natalie glanced at him, thinking, Anyone but you.
“I don’t really have any specific requirements,” she said, keeping up a polite front. She didn’t feel like sharing her actual standards with someone like him. Her aunt really would set her up with anyone. Clearly, they all thought she was an easy target who would just take whatever she was given.
Jordan took her answer the wrong way, and his smirk widened. He leaned in close to her. “Is it because you lived with your ex for three years that you’re afraid to have standards?”
Natalie flinched at his sudden proximity, accidentally knocking over her coffee as she tried to pull away. The hot liquid splashed all over her light blue dress.
“Ah!” she cried out.
Tracy didn’t even bother snapping at Jordan; she just grabbed Natalie and rushed her to the restroom. When they finally came back and sat down, Jordan was looking at Natalie with pure disdain.
“What are you so worked up for? Did I hit a nerve?” he sneered. “Your aunt told me everything about you.”
