Terrance remembered the worst of it. Robert had tripped on the stairs and told everyone Ethan pushed him to try and steal his inheritance.
Rosaline didn’t even ask questions. She locked Ethan in a dark room for three days and three nights without a drop of water or a scrap of food.
Terrance tried to sneak him something to eat, but his mother caught him. She screamed that if he did it again, he’d be locked in there right next to Ethan.
Rosaline snapped out of her shock and pointed a finger at Ethan. “Fine. If you want your money, talk to him. He’s been the head of this family for years; he’s loaded. Ethan, you’ve been the CEO forever. Don’t tell me you don’t have thirty million. Pay your brother’s debt right now, and I might forgive you for how you’ve acted tonight.”
Now that the secret was out, she just needed a fall guy. Her precious son wasn’t going to have a criminal record on her watch.
Ethan let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “He spent the money, so he pays it back. Why the hell should I clean up his mess? I’m not his mother. Mom, if you have a shred of conscience left, tell me: do you even know how much money you’ve taken from me to give to Robert? Every time he ran out of cash and whined to you. I was the one working myself to death so he could throw it away.”
His voice cracked for a second. “And why did I do it? Just so you’d look at me for once. But look at you. You try to fire me, you try to ruin my daughter’s life, and now you want me to pay thirty million for him? That’s thirty million, Mom, not thirty dollars. Where am I supposed to get that? Robert already drained me dry years ago. Are you trying to kill me?”
He was done with these vampires. They spent their lives sucking him dry while looking down on him. He had spent years desperate for Rosaline’s affection, but he was finally over it.
Robert snorted. “You’re the oldest. That’s your job. We gave you the CEO title, so what’s a little pocket money? I can’t believe you’re being this petty. I actually thought you were generous and wanted to get along with you. Now I see you’re just a selfish, cold-blooded prick.”
Robert couldn’t believe Ethan was bringing up the past. He had always been such a doormat; it was annoying to see him finally grow a spine when it actually mattered.
Rosaline was livid. “You’ve got some nerve! You’re the big brother. What’s wrong with spending a hicke money on Robert? Can’t you be the bigger person? Are you even a man, being this stingy?
She didn’t care if Robert had the money or not. She just wanted Ethan to pay. Thirty milhon was sum, and while she had some private savings, that was her retirement fund. She wouldn’t tous ha unless she was dying. Ethan would just have to deal with it. It didn’t matter it he ended up or b wasn’t her son, so it didn’t hurt her.

“You…” Rosaline clutched her chest, gasping for air. “You ungrateful brat! How dare you talk back to me? I raised a snake! My chest… it hurts. I can’t breathe!”
Robert rushed to her side, glaring at Ethan. “Look what you did to Mom! Apologize and pay the money right now, or I’ll make you regret it!”
Rosaline shot Robert a quick look. He caught the signal and started leading her toward the door, trying to make a run for it.
But the man with the scar stepped in their way. He let out a cold sneer. “Oh, no you don’t. You think you can just fake a heart attack and walk away from a debt? You think we’re idiots?”
