“Alpha,” Elder Raven begins, “this is the Moon Goddess’s will-”
“Will, my ass!” Griffin rips the crest off his chest and throws it to the ground.
“You want me to marry some human who doesn’t even have claws? She’s not worthy!”
Murmurs ripple through the crowd.
Vivian Ashworth stands by the elders’ platform, covering her mouth as she laughs. She’s pure-blood nobility, Griffin’s childhood friend. In my last life, because of her, he never once looked at me properly.
In my last life, I begged him for a chance. I begged for ten years.
This life? I’m done begging.
‘I request severance.”
My voice isn’t loud, but the entire square goes dead silent.
Griffin freezes. “What did you just say?”
‘Cut the bond between me and the Alpha.” I meet his eyes. “I ask the Council to approve Vivian Ashworth as the Alpha’s mate, to strengthen the alliance between Nightfall and Ashworth.”
The square erupts.
A fated mate asking to sever the bond? Unheard of.
Griffin stares at me for two seconds, then laughs. “Well. At least you know your place.”
It feels like someone stabbed me in the chest.
The Moon Goddess’s voice still echoes in my head:
Within one day of rebirth, you must fix the three great regrets of his past life. That is the price.”
First regret: he regretted being bound to me.
Fine. I’ll set him free.
Severance requires preparation,” Elder Raven says, frowning.
Then get started.” Griffin turns to leave.
grab his sleeve.
He looks back, eyebrows knitted. “What now?”
Before the ritual,” I swallow hard, “can you take me to Silvermoon Lake to see the fireflies? Just once.”
In my last life, I asked him for ten years. He never said yes. Not once.
Griffin frowns at me for a moment. “Tomorrow night. Don’t make me wait.”
Then he yanks his sleeve free and walks away.
[ stand there, watching his back disappear.
‘Girl, are you stupid?” Elder Raven’s voice comes from behind me.
‘What’s stupid about it?”

You say you want severance, but your eyes are full of him.” The old shaman sighs. “Griffin’s father already told me to prepare the ritual. They’ve been waiting
