‘Alpha! Wait!”
The sky’s barely getting dark, and Griffin and I just reach the base of the mountain when a scream explodes behind us.
He freezes instantly and whips around.
It’s Vivian’s servant, Celeste. She stumbles out of the woods, hair disheveled, face streaked with tears.
‘Alpha! Miss Vivian’s in trouble! Her wolf’s about to lose control!” Celeste sobs. “She can’t accept you becoming a fated with a human, she completely broke
lown!”
Griffin’s face goes white. “Where is she?”
‘At the family estate-”
He doesn’t wait for her to finish. He’s already running. Three steps, two steps, and he’s gone into the trees.
Doesn’t even look back.

Back at my place, I dig out the fake ID and bus ticket from under my pillow.

A note slips out from under the ticket stub-“I switched your seat to a window one. Safe travels. Raven.”
He knows I’m leaving. Of course he does. I couldn’t hide it from him.

Griffin’s parents sit at the head of the table, both pairs of eyes locked on me like I’m some beggar at their door.

‘I came to say goodbye.” I meet his eyes. “I’m leaving tonight. I’m never coming back.”
Griffin’s mother lets out a cold laugh. “Finally came to your senses? But you think severance is that easy?”
I shake my head. “I’m here to warn you.”
Warn us?” They both frown at the same time.
“The Moon Goddess gave me a dream.” I speak slowly. “If Griffin and I are forced to stay bound, in ten years, he’ll die. A brutal death.”
The room goes silent for a beat.

What are you babbling about?!” The former Alpha slams his hand on the table.

When I walk out of the Council Hall, I let out a long breath.
