The mechanical apocalypse had only just begun, so communications had not yet been disrupted.

Even if normal communication methods on the planet were cut off, those controlling mecha could still contact each other through their machines, which was a significantly more effective way to communicate anyway.

When Victor got the call, he was almost at Riverside Zoo.

Seeing the unknown number, Victor hesitated.

“Who could be calling me at this time?”

Curious, Victor decided to answer the call.

As soon as the call connected, Susan’s voice popped into his mind. This was the effect of the mecha taking over Victor’s phone communication function.

“Victor, where are you? Save me!” Susan’s voice was tearful, hoarse, and shaky, exposing her deep despair and helplessness.

Hearing her in that state stirred a strange sense of pleasure in Victor.

“If it were the old me, I would probably have rushed over without a second thought,” Victor mocked himself in his mind, feeling disdain for his former self that had gone to such lengths for this woman.

He asked, his tone calm and indifferent as if he were merely a neutral observer, “Who are you? Why should I save you?”

“Me? I’m Susan! Victor, I know your mecha is powerful! Please come and save me! My dog turned into a monster! It wants to eat me!”

Susan’s anxiousness was evident through her panicked tone.

“Isn’t Stanley there?” Victor asked. Since Susan was still in Riverside, she must be with Stanley.

“He’s holding off the dog, but his mecha isn’t strong enough. He’s about to lose. Where are you? When can you get here?” Susan urged, as if she wanted Victor to appear before her right away.

“Tell him to hang on. I’m busy right now.”

Victor’s tone was cold. He then hung up the call.

Save her? What a joke,

Victor wanted Susan to truly experience the cruelty of the apocalypse. She wanted her to live in fear and anxiety every day.

Victor had changed his mind. Now, he didn’t want Susan to die too quickly. After all, that would be an easy way out for her.

He wasn’t worried that Susan and Stanley would die to the dog.

Although a mechanical dog transformed from a pet was much stronger than a mechanical rat, Stanley’s heavy motorcycle mecha shouldn’t be that weak.

It should be strong enough to deal with the mechanical dog.

Meanwhile, Susan stared blankly at her phone with a look of shock and confusion like a wooden statue.

“What did he say?”

Stanley asked anxiously. Seeing Susan spacing out, he felt the urge to shake her hard.

How could she space out at a time like this?

“He told you to hang on!” Susan’s voice was somewhat stiff as she still couldn’t figure out why Victor had reacted like that.

Didn’t he say he liked her? Does he really?

Hearing that, Stanley erupted in anger, “What?! If I can hang on, why would we call him?”

Stanley’s hatred for Victor spiked dramatically. He viewed Victor’s action as abandoning them to die. Was this how a friend should act? And he had the audacity to pursue his sister?

“Watch out!” Susan suddenly warned Stanley, “It’s coming!”

Stanley cursed under his breath.

Knowing that he couldn’t count on Victor, Stanley knew he could only rely on himself.

He definitely couldn’t count on Susan either. Under such circumstances, if he didn’t want to die, he had to defeat that dog.

Suddenly, the mechanical dog lunged at him, colliding into his mecha with a deafening crash.
