Chapter 9

After the evolution was completed, the mecha slowly landed.

“Menu.”

[Mecha Form: Level 1 Evolution]

[Mecha Level: 10]

[Weight: 31 Tons]

[Combat Power: 320]

[Type: Medium-Weight Close-Combat]

[Standard Power Configuration: Dual-Cycle Nucleus Engine]

[Equipment: Fine Electric War Scythe, Ordinary External Defensive Armor, Ordinary External Thruster.]

[Skill(s): Overdrive Combat Power Enhancement (Legendary)]

After checking the mecha’s stats, Victor happily closed the menu.

“Time to go down the mountain.”

Victor activated the thruster he had just acquired from the evolution. With the thruster, using the propulsion system would be more energy-efficient, allowing him more options if he were to face another encirclement like before.

For now, Victor simply wanted to get accustomed to the feeling of using the thruster.

Although he was already an experienced user of the thruster from his previous life, there were significant differences between lightweight and medium-weight mecha, so he needed some time to adapt.

After a brief period of adjustment, Victor regained that familiar sensation.

Standing at the mountaintop, he took a gentle step, and the mecha shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

The feet of the mecha were only a few inches off the ground. Whenever the thruster ran out of power, it would ignite again, renewing the force.

Victor reached the base of the mountain in just a few minutes.

Upon landing, Victor didn’t turn off the thruster. He continued to use it to assist his movement as he headed straight for the city, where a wealth of resources awaited his collection.

Along the way, Victor didn’t run into any mechanical creatures. He reached the city without any trouble.

However, the situation inside the city was far worse than outside of it. Explosion sounds, metallic clashes, cries, and smoke filled the air. It was truly the scene of an apocalypse.

Victor paused, standing amidst the chaos.

“The most powerful mechanical creatures in the city should be in the zoo. I’ll go take a look.”

The more powerful the mechanical creatures, the more valuable the Source Crystals they drop.

Having tasted the joy of obtaining a good piece of equipment, Victor had naturally lost a lot of interest in ordinary

Source Crystals.

Victor still needed many more pieces of equipment, and to obtain them, he would have to fight powerful mechanical creatures.

“In my previous life, the mechanical creatures from the zoo caused a lot of havoc in the city. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of good stuff if I kill them. I suppose this counts as doing a good deed.”

With that thought, Victor dashed towards the zoo.

Right now, in Riverside City, the primary cause of chaos was not rats or other animals lurking in the dark. Rather, it was the former pets of people.

The mechanical pets were much more lethal than the mechanical rats.

However, there was some positive news too. Not all the pets lost their rationality after being mechanized. Some of the pet dogs retained their intelligence even after mechanization and continued to protect their owners.

No wonder dogs are considered man’s best friend.

While Victor was rushing towards the zoo, in a corner of a chaotic neighborhood, a mechanical dog was confronting a lightweight mecha.

“I told you not to keep that stupid dog, but you wouldn’t listen! Now what do we do?!” Stanley yelled from within the lightweight mecha.

The person he was yelling at was Susan.

“Now’s not the time to argue! Hurry up and kill it!” Susan cried, tears streaming down her face. Her makeup was smudged by the tears and she looked like a ghost.

Susan didn’t care that Stanley yelled at her, she just wished he would hurry up and kill the mechanical dog whose eyes were glowing red. It had completely lost its rationality and was targeting her.

Stanley felt miserable.

If he could kill it, he would have done so already. Would he be yelling at her?

The whole reason they were at an impasse was that he couldn’t defeat the dog.

Look at how many holes that stupid dog had made in his brand-new mecha!

It’s easy for her to say, she’s not the one risking her life!

“If I can kill it, I would have done so already! You need to call Victor and tell him to rescue us. He bought a heavy- duty truck, so his mecha is definitely powerful,”

“Right, right! I’ll call him right now,”

Thanks to Stanley’s reminder, Susan remembered Victor, She hurriedly pulled out her phone as if grasping at a lifeline.

But would Victor even come to their rescue?
