Chapter 183
Kane and Dr. Borsheim were standing on the far end of the room, chatting quietly amongst themselves. From what I could make out, Kane seemed to have been holding a small stack of papers.
“Is that my mother’s will?” I questioned. My voice was still very much strained.
Their attention turned to me in an instant. Kane’s features lit up with an eagerness I never knew I’d see again. I tried to sit up, but was hastily eased back down by the two of them.
My attention fell to Kane, who was currently walking with the aid of a cane.
“Easy does it, Evelyn,” Dr. Borsheim said.
“You’re leg,” I commented to Kane.
The corner of his mouth pulled into an easy smile, while he took his spot at the foot of the bed. “Don’t worry about it,” he said. “I’ll be back to my normal self in a week or so.”
Dr. Borsheim nodded in agreement. “Yes, Kane’s injuries were thankfully far less serious than some others,” he explained. “I’ve been informed of your most recent happenings, and I must say that it all seems rather unprecedented.”
My brows furrowed. “Meaning?”
“Meaning that what you’ve managed to do back on that battlefield has never been witnessed or previously documented in any way, prior to now, that is,” Kane clarified.
“What exactly happened?” I dared to ask.
Dr. Borsheim scratched the back of his neck. “Well, we were sort of hoping that you might be able to tell
us.”
“When you were running from that one feral rogue, did something happen?” Kane asked.
“Yes,” I answered. “While I was running, I felt this strange, foreign sensation spread all throughout my body. At first, I wasn’t sure what it was or what caused it. But there came a moment when I really thought that it was all over for me, that this feeling imploded within me.”
“It would appear that you have started to come into your full inheritance as a Silver Wolf,” he informed
I shared a doubtful look with Kane. “But, that shouldn’t be possible. I mean… Are you telling me that I’m pregnant right now?”
Dr. Borsheim held out his hands. “Easy, Evelyn. Please, take a few breaths for me. No, you’re not pregnant.”
I shook my head. “But then, how-”
“Did the two of you happen to read the whole section regarding how you would come into your full

inheritance?” he questioned. Kane and I nodded. “I see. And, you read about the hidden clause?”
This time, I shot up in panic. “What hidden clause?”
“It says here, after the first way in which you’d fully unlock your Silver Wolf status through the act of conceiving your own child, that the other option would be for you to save your true mate’s life through an
act of self-sacrifice.”
My lips parted. How the hell had I missed that part?
“I…” I could hardly believe it.
“When you took it upon yourself to distract that feral wolf so that Henri could bring me back to the medi tent, that was you sacrificing your own well-being and safety for my life,” Kane acknowledged.
He rested his hand on my leg, grounding me for the moment.
“Now I know why it’s considered unprecedented,” I said. “You see, my parents weren’t true mates. So the only way for my mother to fully come into her own Silver Wolf would be if she had a child, hence me.”
Dr. Borsheim nodded his head. “Well, from what others have been informing me, it appears that your Silver Wolf, in other words, your Alpha, came through under very severe circumstances and is still coming in slowly,” he said. “Since this is not a typical transition, it’s likely to take longer and will need to be watched over closely.”
“Don’t worry, Doctor. I fully intend to do just that,” Kane announced proudly.
