Chapter 182

Evelyn’s POV

I heard a scramble of voices before I was even able to open my eyes. Hell, I didn’t think I had the energy

Everything…Hurt.

“Everyone, please take a few steps back.” Wait, that was Kane’s voice…He was okay!

I wanted to smile. But the very thought of trying to move the muscles in my face that would allow me the chance to do so felt impossible.

The slits of my eyes started to open. Immediately, I was taken aback by the blinding light. I flinched, which caused a painful surge to course through me. I let out a pained mewl, wishing I could shield my

face.

“Move the lanterns further away,” Kane ordered. His voice was deep and raspy. “They’re hurting her eyes,

and she can’t see.”

He sounded so exhausted. I wanted to reach out and see how his injuries were faring. But, there again, I could only attempt one thing at a time.

Once more, I tried to open my eyes. My vision was terribly spotty at first. I gave it a few moments and several blinks before I was able to make out any real shapes.

“You should have seen her, Sir,” Henri commented, his tone filled with wonder. This brought on a slew of

other comments that I hadn’t anticipated.

“She was magnificent.”

“A force to be reckoned with.”

“She tore those rogues apart like they were nothing!”

Finally, those shapeless blobs were starting to sharpen into real images. It took a few minutes before my vision really came through. Not only were his arms wrapped around me, but I was currently lying on his

chest on one of the cots.

Goddess, I never felt safer.

My lips parted. “Kane.”

I could hardly recognize my voice. It was so strained, so tender. My throat ached and burned from having overused my ability to speak, yet I didn’t recall that happening.

Kane’s soft gaze struck me like a warm fire on a cold winter night. Considering how things recently were between us, I was glad that I wasn’t met with instant anger.

“Don’t push yourself,” he said. “You’ve just been through a lot. More than you should have.”

“W-What happened?”

“You mean you don’t remember?” A familiar feminine voice spoke out. Diana came into my line of sight and gave me the warmest smile. “Evelyn, everyone is saying that you transformed into a full blown Silver wolf. It’s as if you achieved your Alpha status.”

My eyes grew wide as my stomach dropped. “W-What?”

Silver wolf? My Alpha Status?

Had everyone lost their minds? I figured Diana, of all people, would have understood how impossible such a thing would have been for me.

The only possible way that I would ever achieve my full status would be if I were to conceive a child.

Not unless….Oh. My. Gods.

Was I pregnant?! All the air stalled in my lungs. No. Surely, that wasn’t it. However, with everything going on, I hadn’t given it much of a thought. I wasn’t even sure when my last menstrual cycle was.

I sucked in a sharp breath. Kane let out another non-committal noise, warning everyone around to cool it on the commentary. He must have felt my whole body go stiff.

I felt him brush a hand down my back, soothing away the anxiety that was beginning to bloom in my

chest.

“Why don’t you keep resting?” he prompted. “I’ll make sure that you get back to the house safely.”

I didn’t need to be told twice. My eyes fluttered closed without hesitation. This time, I graciously handed myself over to peaceful darkness.

The next time I opened up my eyes, I was utterly confused as to how I ended up back in my bedroom at the house. Thankfully, it was much easier for me to move my head and take note of my other

surroundings than before.
