Chapter 181
I had to get back to her! I had to protect her.
Henri snarled as he brought me into the medi tent where various members of our pack’s medical team
were rushing around, treating those who had fallen during battle.
Diana knelt beside me. “Don’t worry, Alpha,” she said. “We’re going to make you as good as new.”
My whole body was beginning to break out into a nasty cold sweat. I watched her uncap a large syringe and firmly inject it into my thigh. I bit out a curse.
“Shit!” My vision started to blur. “D-Diana…Please. Evelyn, she’s out there. S’ not s-safe.”
My eyes rolled into the back of my head, and the world around me went dark.
Evelyn’s POV
Running.
That was all I could allow my mind to process.
Just. Keep. Running.
I could both feel and hear the feral rogue behind me. His large jaw snapped at my heels. One wrong
move and it would all be over.
When I heard Kane call out my name, I nearly broke down right then and there. Even in my wolf state, my chest was heaving. I wasn’t sure how much longer I could go on like this. But what were my options?
I couldn’t exactly stop and turn to fight this damned creature. But I certainly couldn’t go on running. Already, I was beginning to feel the no-so-subtle ache in my legs.
Not to mention, there was a rather strange sensation happening between my lungs. Right below my heart, I felt this odd, prickling feeling swell throughout my chest.
Under normal, less life-threatening circumstances, I would have stopped and headed back to the medi
tent to have someone examine me.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t exactly an option!
I made the rash mistake of glancing over my shoulder to see just how much space there was between us. But as soon as I lost my focus, I felt the gruesome touch of his oversized hand clutch around my ankle.
A broken sound tore from the back of my throat as I lost the rest of my steady footing and fumbled to the ground.
The rogue wasted no time, pinning me down. With one hand pressed firmly against my collarbone, he raised his other hand high in the air. My eyes drew to its sharpened claws.

Oh, Goddess. This was it.

No matter how hard I tried to push back, I couldn’t break the rogue’s hold. All the while, that bewildering feeling within my chest deepened and frantically spread to all corners of my being. It was a building pressure that could no longer be contained.
It squeezed around my heart like an unbreakable vise. Until, suddenly, a million sparks burst behind my eyes, and a thunderous roar tore from the back of my throat.
I glanced at my hands to find my claws bigger and longer than they ever were before. My wolf had never felt more prominent in my life.
With fast reflexes, I grabbed the feral rogue by its throat. In one swift move, his bones cracked in my hand, causing the creature to fall backwards. Dead.
I rose from the ground, feeling an energy I never had experienced before. A power that shouldn’t have been possible. But I certainly was in no position to waste it.
I ran back to the battlefield, the ground tearing up at my feet. My gaze locked on every feral rogue I spotted, and I began tearing through them as though they were nothing. Not a single one of them could
stop me.
Every remaining soldier stopped in their tracks. The sheer dominance my wolf gave off was enough to make them lower their heads as I passed.
When the last of the feral wolves were taken down, I knowingly returned to the medi tent. My heart ached to see Kane. But just as I made it to the entrance, this ethereal sensation I’d been running on gave out.
… Along with my consciousness.
