Finally, she sighs.
“Fine,” she says. “I’ll humor you.
With that, I open the bedroom door, gesturing for her to enter. Only, she pauses.
“You’re not coming in?” she asks, her gaze bouncing from the door to me. “Where are you going?”
“Must you question everything that I do?” I ask tightly.
Evelyn’s eyes narrow. “Yes,” she begins, taking a step toward me. She has to tilt her head back to stare up at me, her chin lifting.
“I am your wife, remember?” she says, using my own argument against me. “Shouldn’t I know?”
I hum in response, not amused. However, I can sense my wolf’s eagerness within me as I study Evelyn’s beauty up close, smell her scent.
Once more the mating bond tugs at me, nothing more.
After a moment, Evelyn breathes out a laugh.
“I guess I can assume where you’re going,” she tosses out. “Or who you’re going to.”
1 lift a brow, but Evelyn steps away, I realize who she is referring to.
“Have fun,” she offers coldly, but I say nothing in return.
Evelyn goes into the room, shutting the door behind her. Immediately, I shake my head. This woman is so determined to be a pain in my ass.
She thinks I’m going to see Bianca. I know that as I begin to walk down the hall. She’s mistaken, but – as I mentioned – I have no desire to correct her.
Let her think what she wants. What does it matter to me?
Really, the only person’s opinion that actually matters is who I find in my study as I come through the door.
“Kane,” the Alpha King greets me. “Thanks for coming to meet with me.”
“Of course,” I offer, closing the door behind me. I come over to him, smelling a familiar scent in the air as I sit down in the chair opposite him.
Alexander must have visited his father just before me.
I have to stifle a laugh, wondering why he came running to his daddy after I stole Evelyn away,
“I’ll keep it brief as I have to get some rest and I’m sure you’re eager to go back to your Luna,” the Alpha King offers. I give a clipped nod in response, saying nothing.
“I have to admit that I am impressed by your leadership over your pack and Evelyn’s abilities as Luna too,” the King compliments. “However, I do have some concerns in regards to your level of intimacy.”
Though my shoulders slightly tighten, I do my best not to shift or scowl at his words.
“You and Evelyn seem to get along well enough,” the Alpha King continues to explain. “But I think you could do a better job of expressing your love and intimacy in front of others. I’d suggest going out in public together and

emphasizing a healthy marriage.”
I roll my jaw, giving another nod. “Evelyn and I are planning on going out on a date tomorrow evening,” I inform him.
“Perfect!” the King declares, genuinely delighted. “That’s exactly what the public needs to see. Make sure to keep it up.”
“I will do my best,” I tell him, trying not to speak between my teeth. I’d come to the same conclusion that he had – that it would likely be a good idea for Evelyn and I to make a public appearance. It was probably going to be a painful evening knowing her antics.
Sensing our conversation was finished, I stood from my chair, beginning to offer my goodbye.
“One last thing,” the Alpha King jumps in. Now, his light tone and pleasantries seem to slip away as he offers a
firm stare.
“I want to remind you that I will be watching,” he warns. “Through the tabloids and my own…special resources. If there are any problems or secrets, I will find out.”
His threat hangs in the air between us, but it’s more annoying than daunting. Slowly, I slide my hands into my pockets and nod.
Looks like I still have his spies to worry about.
