Chapter 75

Evelyn’s POV

“Yeah, no,” I say. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Josie is our best trainer,” Bianca fires out. “She has won awards for her amazing workout routines and success with clients. Are you really going to be rude and deny her help?”

Whispers break out over the room and again I feel Bianca dangling another challenge right in my face.

“Fine,” I say. “Then let’s get started.”

“Gladly!” Josie replies.

Put on display like some zoo animal, I stand and stretch in the middle of the room while the pack members watch me from the sidelines. However, Josie is suddenly behind me, taking my arm into her hands.

“You’re doing it wrong,” she insists. “You need to pull your arm back like this.”

Following her words, Josie forcibly jerks my arm backward, making me yelp as pain sears through my arm and shoulder. Only, she doesn’t let go as she tugs farther, making my arm feel like it’s going to snap.

She releases me though, just as she harshly kicks me in the back of my leg and sends me down to my knees. I hit the floor hard, my bones vibrating at the impact. But then Josie kicks me harder in the back, making me slam down flat to the floor.

Josie snorts. “Wow, that was too easy.”

“Pretty pathetic,” Bianca comments from above me.

Following their words, more pack members begin to whisper, casting judgmental looks in my direction. It doesn’t matter that Josie caught me off guard or was completely unfair. They make their doubts loud and clear.

“How can someone so weak be our Luna?”

I need to stand up, but I can’t deny that my body is screaming in pain in the areas Josie struck or pulled. Perhaps my pride is also a little hurt, which only becomes worse as I hear the door open and a familiar voice come over the

room.

“Does someone want to tell me what the hell is going on?”

Fuck.

Kane.

Part of me wishes I could shut my eyes and wake up from whatever bad dream this is, but sadly this is my very pathetic and demeaning reality, So instead, I grit my teeth as I begin to force myself up, my shoulder overcome with pain as I press up from the ground.

“Oh, Kane,” Bianca begins innocently. “The pack was just interested in how Evelyn’s training was coming along. They’ve been concerned about her strength as Luna.”

I pant as I manage to get onto my feet, the back of my knee and calf aching as I stand. I try not to groan as I shift my weight – a pain erupting through my back – but it slips out from between my lips regardless. Kane glances at me, his brows twitching together.

“I’m worried about her capabilities,” Josie insists as she steps closer to me, studying me as if in disapproval. “I

mean, I didn’t even train her that hard and she’s already torn up.”

I let out a rush of air, well aware that we both know that’s a lie. However, Josie just gives me a subtle smile as she starts to walk away, brushing her shoulder against mine.

Only, the moment her body comes into contact with mine, a growl rips from my throat.

Josie is frozen now, her eyes wide as she blinks at me in panic. Meanwhile, the pack members around the room look equally as startled, seeming to at least note the power in my wolf’s response.

But me? I’m delighted. This is exactly what I need, want. Despite what Josie and Bianca claim, maybe their attempts to make me seem weak are only going to bring my wolf closer to the surface.

“See,” Bianca is the first to speak. “She is clearly a problem! She’s weak and unpredictable. We can’t have someone like her as Luna. Keeping her around is a liability.”

“You keep insisting that I’m weak,” I begin, finally breaking my silence. “But I seem to recall taking you down once before, and that was when my wolf was even ‘weaker.””
