“But she still needs to do -” she tries.

“That’s all,” Kane easily cuts her off, not even glancing her way. “Meeting over. Make sure you get started on your tasks as soon as possible. We owe it to our community to do a good job.”

Kane’s pack accepts his words happily and they begin to filter out of the room. I can’t help but notice Bianca doesn’t get up from her chair, but I do my best to ignore her as I get up from my own.

*I’ll head straight to the hospital now to go talk to Diana,” I say to Kane, not fully certain why I feel the need to tell him where I’m going. But I am eager to get my plans set in motion.

“Don’t forget about your training later tonight,” Kane says. “I’ll meet you in the gym around ten.’

From the corner of my eye, I can see Bianca still in her seat. Only now, her glare becomes deadly as she sighs loudly, displeased and trying to get Kane’s attention.

However, he doesn’t pay her any mind. It’s strange yet satisfying.

“I’ll be there,” I tell him.

I then leave the room, wondering what lovely things Bianca plans to say about me once I’m gone. I’m sure Kane is about to get an earful.

It wasn’t a bad afternoon at the hospital. Only a few wolves needed my attention and I was also able to talk with Diana and some of the other nurses. Thankfully, they’re available the night of the celebration and agreed to help

out.

As I return back to the pack house, I note that I have about fifteen minutes before I have to meet Kane in the pack

gym.

I yawn as I make my way up to the pack house’s front door, registering how quiet it seems. I feel like I normally see at least two wolves somewhere around.

As I reach for the door, I twist the knob, but my brows pull together in confusion as it doesn’t budge. I try again, my indifference only growing.

The front door is locked..the front door is never locked – at least in my experience. I try it again just to be sure, but I make no progress.

Did something happen? Why would no one be at the door and they’d completely lock it?

Memory helping me, I move to grab my keys, remembering I was given a key to the front door. However, as I try to put it into the lock, it doesn’t fit.

In fact, there’s no way in hell this is the right key – the shape and size are completely wrong.

Exasperated, I sigh before I begin to knock on the door. Only, minutes go by and still no one comes.

Well…it looks like I need to try something else. Doing just that, I move away from the front door, slowly looking around for an open window or any other way in,

I leave the porch completely, going around the house to see if there are any other points of entry. As I go, I pull out my phone, thinking I can try and call Kane,

However, I discover my phone is dead and the side door is also locked. I curse under my breath, at a loss. That is, until I notice an open window on the second floor.

I bite my lip, looking at one of the trees growing close to the house. It looks like I can climb it and likely reach the window.

Well…what other choice do I have?

I press out a breath as I approach the tree, beginning to pull myself up onto the lowest branch. I then climb higher, finding the window isn’t too far.

Only, I don’t go any higher. Instead, a gasp rips from my throat as someone suddenly grabs me and tugs me down from the tree.

Within seconds, my feet are back on the ground and someone has me pinned against the side of the house.
