Chapter 6

Draven pulled strings and secured a one-day release on bail.

Maris came back with him.

The moment they returned to the estate, he went straight to his room.

He plugged the flash drive into his computer.

An audio file started playing.

Draven’s brows drew tight.

It was Maris’s voice.

“I hit your kid on purpose, Liora. Why do you get to have him and Draven, like some perfect little family?”

“I cried a little, and he believed me. Thought your son ran into the road on his own.”

That’s how you ended up in prison for five years. Funny, right?”

A rustling sound followed.

Then her voice turned sharp.

“And your parents? They rotted for days before anyone found them. You were locked up, so there was no one left to

claim them.”

A sudden scream cut through the recording.

“Liora, what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you hitting me?”

The audio stopped.

Draven sat there, frozen,

He couldn’t believe it.

The girl he thought was soft, harmless…was a monster.

She killed Eli.

She framed Liora.

She destroyed her parents,

His chest tightened. It felt like something heavy was crushing him from the inside.

Then he snapped.

He roared and smashed everything in the room.

Glass shattered. Furniture splintered.

He walked out.

Maris was still shaken, clinging to him the second she saw him.

“Draven, Liora went too far,” she cried.

“I was just trying to scare her, maybe do the surgery myself, and she called the police.”

She sniffed, voice turning bitter.

“Her face was already ruined anyway. What difference would it make if I touched it?”

Then she lowered her voice.

“But… do you think the police know she took the fall for me?”

“I’m scared, Draven. You have to protect me.”

She kept talking, not even noticing he hadn’t said a word. When she finally looked up, she froze.

He was staring at her, no warmth, no anger-just something darker.

Her grip loosened as she forced a shaky smile. “Draven… what’s wrong? Don’t scare me. What about the baby?”

He stepped toward her, slow and deliberate, then suddenly grabbed her by the hair and yanked hard.

She screamed.

“Draven! That hurts! What are you doing? It’s me!”

“Let go!”

He smiled.

Cold, Twisted.

“Maris Hale… how dare you kill my child.”

“How dare you trick me into sending Liora to prison.”

His hand tightened, shaking her violently.

Her scalp nearly tore under his grip.

“Draven, it hurts-please, let go,” she sobbed.

This has to be a misunderstanding.”

“Did Liora say something? I’ll apologize, okay? Don’t be mad.”

He said nothing, just hit play.

Her own voice filled the room-every word, every lie, every cruel laugh.

Maris’s face drained of color as she collapsed at his feet, crawling forward and begging over and over.
