The hesitation on the homeroom teacher’s face vanished instantly. 

“Mr. Jackson? I’ve never heard of him. I’ll have him removed from my classroom right now!” 

Thomas, as an adult, was at least reasonable. 

But Maya’s brother? Completely unreasonable.

She put on an awkward yet polite smile, turned to Thomas outside the door, and showed him out. “I’m sorry, Mr. Jackson. As you can see, you’ve frightened my student. 

“We need to continue class, so perhaps… You could schedule another time?” 

Before he could respond, she decisively locked the door, cutting off any chance of him stepping inside. 

Maya quickly returned to her seat and let out a breath of relief. 

Sure, it was a bit shameless borrowing her brother’s name again. 

But honestly, that worked way better than arguing things out herself. 

Standing alone in the empty hallway, Thomas didn’t give up so easily. His expression darkened for a moment before slowly returning to calm. 

He adjusted his emotions slightly. 

Children being unreasonable was normal. 

Maybe he should try a different approach and talk to her parents instead. 

Adults could communicate more effectively and get more reliable information. 

Alfred lay quietly on his desk, watching his sister, who seemed lost in thought after coming back. After a moment’s hesitation, he asked, “Who was looking for you?” 

Did Maya have any friends outside of school? 

Maya rested her chin on her hand, her gaze unfocused as if she were still thinking about something. At his question, she answered casually, “Some jerk.” 

Alfred gave a small “oh” and didn’t ask further. 

He wasn’t a particularly curious person. If it were Toby, he’d definitely keep pressing until he got the full 

story.

Alfred noticed, but he wasn’t good with words. 

When it came to expressing emotions, he had the communication skills of a rock. 

Talking to him wouldn’t help. It might even make things worse. 

After hesitating for two seconds, Maya suddenly stood up and headed toward the middle school building. 

Right now, she needed someone to talk to. 

Annie was chatting with her fake friends about where to throw their next party when she suddenly saw a small head peek in through the classroom door. 

Her hand paused mid-fan. 

What was this kid doing here? Usually, she was the one going to find her. 

“What are you looking at, Annie?” 

Her friend asked, “Have you decided where the next party’s going to be?” 

“I’ll think about it later,” Annie said, standing up, smiling softly. “I need to step out for a bit.” 

Outside the classroom, she took Maya to a quiet corner. 

It was a small space enclosed by railings, overlooking the school grounds below. This was usually where

“Did you come to see your brother?”

Maya’s eyes widened slightly. “Would he really do something that low?” 

“Huh? You seriously think your brother wouldn’t?” Annie raised a brow. “Do you actually think he’s some kind of noble person?” 

Maya replied, “Not really.” 

The two of them quickly reached a consensus that Toby’s character was questionable, and he lacked morals. 

That’s what happens when your reputation is that bad. 

“I’ve been meaning to say this, but my brother is completely unreliable. I have no idea why he even has a girlfriend,” Maya added, clearly having opinions. “He’s basically the type who’d go full psycho if pushed.”
