Elnora lowered her gaze to the documents in front of her, not bothering to glance back at Albert to see his expression right now.

She knew exactly who was working at Starlight Entertainment.

It was Albert’s ex-girlfriend, Stella.

Word was, their relationship had been a total sensation back in the day. For two young people, it was the kind of romance that made headlines.

Even now, the Port City media still loved to dig up that old story and rehash it for everyone.

“Relax, I won’t give her a hard time,” Elnora said.

Elnora knew exactly why Reese had sent her to Starlight Entertainment first.

After all, she’d heard that Albert and his ex were still tangled up with each other.

Albert didn’t respond to Elnora. He simply walked out of the study without saying a word.

Elnora cast a brief look at his back as he left, then refocused on the documents in front of her.

After Albert stepped out of the study, he paused and said quietly, “It’s getting late. You should get some rest. You’re just recovering.”

Elnora simply replied, just one word. “Okay.”

Albert left the study and went back to his own room.

Elnora closed the file, stood up, and made her way to the guest room.

Early the next morning, before dawn, Albert quietly left the Finley family house.

Daron, always up early, saw Albert coming out of Elnora’s room and greeted him with a casual “Morning.”

Albert gave a slight nod and, before leaving, asked Daron to keep an eye on Elnora for him.

Daron nodded in agreement.

With the wedding day fast approaching, there was still a mountain of things to get done.

Albert was practically the mastermind behind the whole event, personally designing every aspect of the wedding.

Compared to Elnora, who was pretty relaxed about it all, Albert was the one who seemed genuinely excited for the big day. He wanted the wedding to be nothing short of grand and absolutely perfect.

The news about Zack stirring up trouble at the Finley family house last night spread like wildfire across

Vrufield.

Elnora’s phone blew up with calls from people trying to confirm what happened.

She didn’t give anyone a straight answer and just acted like she never saw any of it.

Right then, Zack called to apologize.

“Elnora, I’m sorry. I was drunk last night. Hope I didn’t cause you any trouble?” Zack said.

But Elnora’s voice was cold and emotionless.

“Are you seriously telling me you don’t know if you caused trouble, Mr. Clark?” she replied.

Zack was caught off guard by Elnora’s retort, and it stung.

The scene of Elnora holding Albert’s hand as they walked into the house last night kept replaying in his mind.

Zack took a deep breath, tried to calm himself down, and pinned all the blame on the booze.

“I’m really sorry,” he said.

“I had way too much to drink last night. I’ll watch myself next time,” he added.

“Do you need anything else?” Elnora said, her voice flat and distant.

Zack felt a sting from Elnora’s coldness, his hand clenching the phone so hard his knuckles turned white.

“Elnora, I meant every word I said last night,” Zack said quietly.

“I’ll divorce Mila, I…” Zack started, his voice trembling.

But before Zack could finish, Elnora hung up on him.

Zack froze for a moment, then tried calling back, but couldn’t get through because Elnora’d already blocked

his number.

She didn’t hesitate and blocked Zack immediately, then found Mila’s contact and blocked her as well.

She made sure to block both Zack and Mila everywhere-phone, social media, everything.

When Zack couldn’t reach Elnora by phone, he quickly pulled up his social media and sent her a message.

But as soon as he hit send, a red exclamation mark showed up.

[Your message was not delivered. The recipient has refused to accept it.]

Seeing that notification, Zack’s face fell.

He threw his phone aside in frustration, his jaw clenched and his expression grim.

Just then, Mila walked with a bowl of a hangover cure, and Zack’s phone landed right at her feet.

She stood still, glancing down at the screen.

Even with the screen cracked, she could still catch a glimpse of the message.

The conversation with Elnora was still on the screen.

Mila took a deep breath, trying to keep her feelings in check, then walked over to Zack’s bedside.

In a gentle voice, she said, “Zack, I brought you some hangover cure.”

Zack looked up at Mila, and when he saw that fawning smile on her face, his expression turned icy.

In a cold, sharp voice, he said, “Mila, how can you be so shameless?”

Mila’s smile froze on her face.

“What did I do?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Zack scoffed coldly.

“I’m about to divorce you, and you still have the nerve to take care of me?”

Mila lowered her eyes and said softly, “We’re not divorced yet, are we?”

Zack’s eyes turned cold and sharp. “Mila, you know damn well. When I set my mind to something, nobody can stop me.”

Mila nodded. “Of course I know.”

“If you didn’t, you wouldn’t have confronted Elnora and chosen to marry me in the first place.”

When Mila brought up what happened not long ago, Zack’s frown deepened, his expression turning even more icy.

Zack shot Mila a look tinged with obvious disgust.

Mila took a deep breath, determined not to let Zack’s mood shake her.

“Zack, I’m not your enemy. There’s no need for you to glare at me like that,” she said, keeping her voice steady.

“You married me after weighing the pros and cons. Now that Elnora’s about to marry someone else, you’re freaking out, but you can’t just pin everything on me.”

Zack said, “Name your terms.”

Mila met his gaze, her tone firm. “I want the Eldoria project.”

Zack’s face darkened instantly, and he shot her down without hesitation.

“You’re really pushing your luck. Do you honestly think the Gill family has what it takes to pull off a project like that?” he sneered.

Mila smiled, unfazed. “Whether we can pull it off or not, that’s up to us.”

“We’ve barely been married, and now you want to divorce me, making me the laughingstock of Vrufield. It’s only fair I ask for a bit more as compensation.”

As she spoke, she placed the hangover cure on Zack’s nightstand and said softly, “Zack, Grandpa wants to see you as soon as you wake up. He already knows about you stirring things up at the Finley family house last night.”

“Kieran went to the old house early this morning. Word is, the shareholders have already made their positions

clear.

“Honestly, divorcing me is just a minor thing compared to everything else you have to deal with right now,” she added

Zack’s face clouded over, his mood sinking even further.

Mila turned to leave Zack’s room, but stopped at the doorway and shot him a look over her shoulder.

“By the way, Zack, you’ve got five days to make up your mind,” she said.

“If the Eldoria project isn’t in the Gill family’s hands by then, I’ll take it as you not really wanting that divorce.”

With that, Mila headed out of the room.

Once she was outside, she finally let out a deep, frustrated breath.

She knew Zack would think things through and weigh all the options before making any move.

That was why she didn’t see the point in starting a fight with him.

After all, Zack would never let the Gill family get their hands on the Eldoria project.

The Eldoria project was the one Zack valued most lately. Its prospects were bright, and it promised major gains.

If Zack actually agreed, she wouldn’t be losing out. At least she’d have something to justify herself to the Gill family when she went back.

Mila glanced back at the room, her gaze fierce and determined.

When she married Zack, everyone already looked down on her. If she got divorced after just a few months, she’d be the butt of every joke in the Gill family.

If she didn’t demand a hefty price, her life in the Gill family would only get harder from here on out.

She’d never let herself sink that low.
