Chapter 555

As soon as Elnora walked in, Heather came over to greet her.

Lately, Elnora had been eating at the office before coming home.

Albert didn’t even bother to talk to her.

For no apparent reason, Heather suddenly felt a sense of crisis, like she could lose her job at any moment.

“Ms. Finley, I’ve prepared some of your favorite dishes. Would you like to try them?” Heather asked.

Elnora said in a flat tone, “No, thanks.”

A hint of awkwardness flashed in Heather’s eyes as she reached out to take Elnora’s briefcase.

But Elnora avoided her attempt, walked right past her, and went upstairs.

As she headed upstairs, Albert shot her a look and said, “I didn’t see you in the company cafeteria today.”

Elnora had been eating in the company cafeteria lately, so Albert started going there as well.

But that day, when he went to the cafeteria, Elnora was nowhere to be found.

Elnora didn’t even slow down as she replied in a flat tone, “Elara asked me to go out for dinner, and I’m heading out with her later to do some shopping.”

“Elara asked me to go out for dinner, and I’m heading out with her later to do some shopping.”

Albert raised an eyebrow. This was the first time since they got married that Elnora was actually going out shopping.

He asked right away, “Need someone to carry your bags?” He said it without even looking up from his magazine.

When he didn’t get a response, Albert looked up at the stairs, but Elnora was already gone. He just snorted, closed the magazine, and tossed it onto the table.

Heather could feel Albert’s bad mood and just stood in place, not daring to make a sound.

Lately, she’d noticed that Albert was trying to please Elnora.

But Elnora always stayed indifferent, never accepting any of his attempts to please her.

Heather had been working with Albert for years, and she’d never seen him act like this. She thought Elnora was a real handful.

If even Albert couldn’t handle her, there was no way Heather could manage her either.

She resigned herself to it. From that moment, she’d stick to her duties and keep her head down.

catching her off guard.

Elara followed Elnora’s gaze and spotted Stella being shoved out of a high-end boutique.

The person doing the shoving shared some features with Stella, clearly a relative.

They were in the middle of some heated argument, and suddenly the relative gave Stella a vicious slap across the face.

The crisp sound of that slap rang out in the air. Elara’s mouth fell open a little, surprise flashing in her eyes.

Elnora looked at the woman who had slapped Stella, and suddenly remembered who she was.

When Elnora and Albert got married, they pretty much invited every elite family from Port City and Vrufield. The Taylor family naturally got an invite.

The woman who slapped Stella was the Taylor family’s eldest daughter, Arnetta Taylor, born to the legitimate wife.

Elnora remembered that after Albert left on her wedding day, Reese took her around to greet the guests. As they passed by the Taylor family’s table, the eldest daughter gave her a mocking look.

Elnora hadn’t paid it any mind at the time. Looking back, Elnora figured Arnetta probably thought she was useless for letting Stella steal her groom right on her wedding day.

Seeing Stella get slapped, Elara murmured, “Guess the folks at Starlight weren’t exaggerating. Stella really has it tough in the Taylor family.”

Elnora gave a slight nod, looked away, and said in a calm voice, “Weren’t you planning to pick up some lingerie? Come on, let’s go.”

Elara nodded.

Just as they were about to turn and leave, Stella and her half-sister turned their gaze toward Elnora and Elara.

Arnetta even took the initiative to greet Elnora. “Mrs. Campbell!”

Elnora found the title oddly unfamiliar, but she paused, turned to face her, and gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.

Stella was clutching her face, her eyes flickering uneasily toward Elnora. There was embarrassment in her gaze, but also a stubborn defiance. She refused to back down.

Arnetta walked over to Elnora, wearing a bright smile. “Shopping alone today, Mrs. Campbell? Where’s your husband? Didn’t he come with you?”

Elnora glanced at Arnetta, her face calm and unbothered. “I have no idea. Maybe you should call him yourself.”

No matter how much drama there was between families, Elnora felt it was unnecessary to slap them in the open. If Elnora wasn’t exactly fond of Stella, she liked Arnetta even less.

Arnetta’s smile froze for a moment as she caught the meaning in Elnora’s eyes. She could tell exactly what Elnora thought of her.

‘I can’t stand the way she acts. Elnora felt nothing but disgust for her behavior.

Elnora glanced back and saw Stella standing in place, looking so hurt and wronged. A glaring red handprint stood out on her fair face, the marks of five fingers clear as day.

“Isn’t it satisfying, Mrs. Campbell?” Arnetta sneered, her voice laced with sarcasm.

“She’s been clinging to your husband for ages, even messing up your wedding day. I’m just doing you a favor; giving her what she deserves,” she added.

Elnora locked eyes with Arnetta, her gaze dark and chilling as a slow frown crept across her face.

“You want me to hook you up with a doctor?” Elnora said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
