Stella quickly sent a message to Heather to calm her down: [Don’t worry. If Albert holds you accountable, I’ll take the blame for you. And if he fires you, you can always work for me instead.]

Heather sent a quick thank you to Stella after reading her message. At the same time, her worries melted.

Early the next morning, Elnora came downstairs to find Heather standing with her head down, getting chewed out by Albert.

Elnora had no idea what Heather had done wrong. She just shot them a casual glance, then, without another word, headed for the door.

Albert saw her coming down and asked, “Skipping breakfast?”

Elnora shook her head. “I’ll just eat at work.”

Albert frowned, looking a bit more serious. “You just recovered. Now’s the time to take care of yourself.”

Elnora kept slipping on her shoes without pausing, replying casually, “I asked Elara to prepare breakfast for me. I’ll eat as soon as I get to the office.”

Albert frowned but didn’t say anything.

Elnora walked out the door after finishing with her shoes. The Campbell family’s driver was already waiting for her at the entrance.

Elnora walked over, ducked into the car, and was driven away.

Albert stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching as Elnora’s car disappeared, his gaze darkening.

Meanwhile, Heather stood behind him, whispering an apology. “I’m sorry, Sir. I know I messed up. I’ll make sure not to bring you and Ms. Finley up in front of Stella anymore,” she said.

Albert’s expression was cold as he spoke in a low, serious voice, “Heather, you need to remember who pays your salary.”

Heather pressed her lips together and nodded. “I’ve got it. I won’t ever make that mistake again.”

Albert gave a curt nod and strode away.

Heather watched him leave, then breathed out in relief, feeling the tension drain from her shoulders.

Just then, Stella’s message popped up on her phone: [Heather, you okay? I already talked to Albert and told him to let it slide this time.]

Heather read the message and quickly replied:

He hardly ever saw Elnora act so gentle and obedient.

Yesterday morning, they’d had breakfast together at home. But even then, there was always a hint of caution in her eyes. She never really relaxed around him.

Elnora felt a little uncomfortable under Albert’s gaze and finally looked up at him. “Do you need something, Mr. Campbell?”

There was a tiny bit of oatmeal at the corner of her mouth.

Albert reached out to wipe it off, but Elnora instinctively leaned away.

His fingers just brushed past her lips, ending up touching nothing.

Elnora realized what was going on, casually reached for a tissue from the side, and wiped her mouth.

Albert pulled his hand back, absentmindedly rubbing his fingers together, as if the softness still lingered on his fingertips.

Elnora tossed the tissue into the trash, then looked up and met Albert’s gaze as he gave her a faint smile.

“Just checking if you’re really being good and eating your breakfast,” he said.

Elnora stayed silent.

Albert added, “Well, the Campbell family spent a lot getting you healthy again. I’ve got to keep an eye on you.”

Elnora nodded, her expression calm. “Thanks for looking out for me, Mr. Campbell. I’ll make sure to take care of myself.”

Albert said, “It’s not like I’m worried about you. The Campbell family spent a fortune getting you back in shape. If you mess up your health again, we’d be losing out, wouldn’t we?”

Elnora said, her tone flat, “I’ll make sure to take care of myself.”

She sounded just like she was reporting to her boss.

Suddenly, Albert felt uneasy. He said quietly, “Are you avoiding breakfast at home because you’re worried Heather might try to mess with you?”

Elnora didn’t answer. Hence, Albert added, “She doesn’t have the guts.”

Elnora said, “You’re overthinking it, Mr. Campbell. Honestly, I’m just not used to her cooking.”

Albert hired Heather, so Elnora had no say in whether she stayed or left. But since Heather was working for Stella, she wanted to keep her distance. After all, Elnora wasn’t someone who’d show mercy.

Elnora closed the lid on the lunch box and set it aside. Seeing that Albert still had no intention of leaving, she asked again, “Is there anything else, Mr. Campbell?”

Albert shook his head. “No, that’s all.”

Elnora said, “I need to get back to work now.”

She was clearly telling him to leave. Albert looked at her blank face for a moment, then stood up and walked out. “Alright, I’ll let you get to it.”

Elnora nodded.

Albert walked out of Elnora’s office. As he reached out to close the door behind him, he caught a glimpse of Elnora tidying up her desk.

Her face looked soft and calm, so different from how she acted when he was around.

Albert let out a small ‘tsk’, not really sure why, but for some reason, he just felt a little irritated.

He closed Elnora’s office door and went back to his own office.

For the next few days, neither of them bothered the other. They pretty much stayed out of each other’s way.

Elnora commuted between Supernova Entertainment and the Campbell residence every single day.

That was how things always were for her back when she was working.

What surprised her was that Albert turned out to be just like her.

Every day when she got home, Albert would either show up a few minutes later or he’d already be on the couch, reading the newspaper.

Albert was nowhere to be seen in the entertainment news lately. He used to be such a party animal, but after getting married, it was like he’d totally cleaned up his act.
