Chapter 603

Albert let out a low chuckle, a wave of pleasure rising in his chest.

He stayed kneeling on the floor, massaging Elnora’s foot for several minutes until the ointment was fully absorbed. Only then did he let go, gently place her foot back down, and even thoughtfully helped her put her shoe back on.

Elnora thanked him softly.

“Thank you,” she said.

Albert gathered up the rest of the ointment and set it on the table. When Elnora stood up to go upstairs, he reached out and slipped his hand around her waist.

Her waist was so slender, so soft.

The instant his hand touched her, he was momentarily dazed.

Without warning, the memory of that day in the pool hall flashed through his mind. Elnora bent over the table, her back arched as she lined up her shot. He swallowed hard.

Elnora shot him a sidelong glance, her eyes drifting from his face down to the hand resting on her waist.

She didn’t say anything, but her gaze was clearly questioning him.

Albert let out a quiet cough and said, “We just applied the ointment. It’s not going to work that quickly. If you walk upstairs now, it’ll still hurt. Let me carry you upstairs.”

Elnora was just about to refuse when Albert bent down, hooked his arms under her knees, and scooped her up in one smooth motion.

As her feet left the ground, a flicker of panic flashed in Elnora’s eyes.

Albert caught her nervousness, a smirk tugging at his lips as he spoke.

“If you’re worried about falling, Ms. Finley, you can always hold onto my neck,” he teased.

Elnora naturally kept her hands to herself, staying quiet and tense, refusing to grab his neck.

Albert raised an eyebrow and jostled her slightly in his arms.

Flustered, Elnora instinctively reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Albert gave a soft laugh.

“Time to head upstairs. Let me shift you a bit,” he said.

Elnora frowned, keeping quiet. She was pretty sure Albert was doing this on purpose.

Elnora looked up at Albert, thought for a moment, and replied softly.

“Because you’re clever too, Mr. Campbell,” she said.

Albert was caught off guard for a second, then a smile spread across his face.

“Ms. Finley, are you secretly plotting to clear the court?” he teased.

Elnora didn’t answer, just stayed quiet.

Albert carried Elnora into the master bedroom and set her down on the bed.

The soft bed dipped as she lay down.

For a split second, Albert almost wanted to sink into the bed with her, but the thought disappeared as quickly as it came.

After placing her on the bed, he immediately looked away.

“Get some rest. If you need anything, just let me know,” he said.

Elnora softly murmured an “mm.”

Albert started toward the door.

He was about to close it when he heard Elnora’s gentle voice behind him.

“Goodnight,” she said.

That was the kind of gentle tone Elnora only ever used with Marina.

‘Is she starting to treat me like family now?’ Albert thought.

Albert paused, the excitement he’d just managed to suppress surging right back up.

“Goodnight,” he replied softly.

He glanced back into the room.

Elnora tucked herself in and closed her eyes.

Albert glanced back one last time, then gently pulled the door shut behind him.

He went back to the side bedroom, washed up, and lay down, but he just couldn’t get Elnora out of his head. It was driving him crazy with insomnia.

He was never one to have trouble sleeping, but tonight was a rare exception.

Restless, Albert grabbed his phone and glanced at the screen.

Kaelin and Benedict noticed Albert hadn’t replied in the group chat, so they realized something was up and
