Chapter 614 No One Dared To

Albert shot Stella a sidelong glance, saying nothing.

Stella looked at him with tears in her eyes, her face full of pleading. “Albert, for the sake of our… acquaintance, could you please let Nelson go?”

She’d always had to tiptoe around her father in the Taylor Family.

And her father had to stay on Nelson’s father’s good side.

If anything happened to Nelson, she truly wouldn’t be able to hold her head up at all in the Taylor Family.

Elnora watched Stella sobbing, pressed her fingers to her brow, and said quietly, “Why don’t you two take this outside?”

Stella’s crying was seriously affecting her mood.

Stella’s sobs stopped for a moment. She bit her lip so hard that it almost drew blood, looked at Elnora, and said in a low voice, “Ms. Finley, you’ve always had it easy, so you’ d never understand what someone like me has to go through.

“I’m not asking for your sympathy, all I ask is-”

Elnora cut her off, her tone cold and detached, “Sorry, Ms. Taylor, but you don’t need to plead with me. I’m just not the type to show compassion when it comes to business. “People make their own choices. So, would you two please step outside?”

By saying “you two,” she made it clear she wanted both Stella and Albert out.

Albert’s eyes darkened as he fixed his gaze on Stella, his voice cool and unconcerned as he said, “Didn’t you hear? She said get out.”

Stella bit her lip, refusing to leave so easily. She looked at Albert, but he cut her off coldly, “This matter has been fully delegated to Ms. Finley for handling.

“Her decisions represent mine. Anyone who messes up deserves to be punished.”

Stella’s expression froze.

She knew that with the way Albert was treating her now, her words probably wouldn’t make any difference.

But then she remembered all the years they’d spent together. She thought that since Albert had always valued loyalty above everything, he surely wouldn’t just turn his back on her.

Albert’s cold response left her completely stunned. She couldn’t wrap her head around it.

“Albert…” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Albert shot her a cold, frosty glare, then told Elnora, “Ms. Finley, she won’t leave. Maybe you should call security.”

Elnora shot Albert a glance, then immediately picked up the office phone beside her.

Stella had already made a fool of herself enough times lately.

She still wanted to hold onto a shred of dignity.

After all, there were still plenty of colleagues in the company who thought highly of her.

Stella didn’t want to end up unable to show her face at work.

So when she saw Elnora pick up the phone to call security, Stella, still crying, quietly left Elnora’s office.

Elnora shot a glance at Stella’s back as she left, then put down the phone and picked up the files on her desk, starting to read again.

“Mr. Campbell, if there’s nothing else, please step out as well,” she said coolly.

Albert raised an eyebrow, noticing her indifferent expression. So he reminded her, “Ms. Finley, have you seen the invitation from the Herman family yet?”

Hearing that, Elnora looked up at Albert, a flicker of confusion crossing her eyes.

“The Herman family, Wren, and the equestrian club,” Elnora muttered.

She finally remembered what Albert was talking about.

She’d been so busy dealing with the branch office lately that she’d completely spaced on Wren’s invitation to go horseback riding at the equestrian club.

‘Guess you forgot, huh?” Albert said, a hint of teasing in his voice.

‘That’s right,” Elnora nodded, totally unbothered as she owned up to it.

Albert fixed his gaze on Elnora, a playful smile tugging at his lips.

‘I don’t think you have any riding gear, Ms. Finley. Want me to take you shopping for some after work?” he offered.

Elnora checked the time on her watch, then nodded without hesitation. “Sure.”

Albert’s frown melted away as he stood up, a smile spreading across his face as he told Elnora, “Just let me know when you’re done for the day.”

Elnora nodded.

Albert then left Elnora’s office.

When work was finally over, Elnora finished all her work and got ready to leave.

She walked over to the elevator, hit the down button, and suddenly Albert’s words came back to her.

She glanced at the door to Albert’s office, was about to walk over, but after taking a

step, she changed her mind, looked away, and dialed Albert’s number instead.

Albert picked up right away.

“You done for the day, Ms. Finley?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Elnora replied.

Albert immediately opened his office door and stepped out.

When he stepped out, he saw Elnora already waiting by the elevator. He raised an

eyebrow, hung up, slipped his phone into his pocket, and walked over.

“Ms. Finley, don’t tell me you forgot about our promise and were about to leave without me?” he teased.

Elnora nodded, not even bothering to deny it.

Albert watched her nod, then pressed his tongue to the inside of his cheek.

‘Oh, she really couldn’t care less about me, Albert thought, feeling a sudden pang of helplessness.

Just then, the elevator doors slid open.

Neither of them said a word the whole way down.

When the elevator reached the first floor, it stopped.

Elnora stepped out first.

Albert followed right behind her.

Stella and her assistant Adrianna Madden stepped out of another elevator just then.

The moment Stella spotted Albert, her eyes went red, tears threatening to spill.

She avoided his gaze, paused, and only started walking again after Elnora and Albert had passed by.

Adrianna felt a pang in her chest when she saw Stella so hurt.

She gently patted Stella’s back and said in a soothing voice, “Stella, don’t stress. Mr. Campbell’s just caught up with Elnora for now, that’s all.

You two have been tangled up for years. It’s fate. He’ll come back to you eventually.”

Stella said nothing, just swiped at the tears in her eyes.

As some coworkers were heading out, they spotted Stella crying and came over, worried, to ask what was going on.

‘What’s wrong, Stella?” one of them asked, sounding concerned.

Stella was always so down-to-earth, so a lot of people in the company really liked her.

Adrianna immediately piped up, sounding indignant. “It’s all because of Ms. Finley.

“She can’t stand Mr. Campbell’s history with Stella, but she wants to keep up her good reputation, so she’s been going after Stella’s cousin behind everyone’s back.

“Stella’s cousin got arrested this morning, and he still hasn’t been released.”

Hearing that, the coworkers exchanged surprised glances.

“Ms. Finley really crossed the line this time,” one of them muttered.

Adrianna got more and more fired up, piling it on and making things sound even worse.

The coworkers were totally shocked, and all they could do was look at Stella with pure sympathy.

After all, now that Reese had Elnora’s back, even Albert had to tread carefully around her.

“I always wondered why things got so quiet after Stella signed that betting contract with her. I thought Elnora was just being generous, but who knew she’d pull such a ruthless move behind the scenes,” someone whispered.

“Stella’s really got it rough. Guess from now on, we’d better keep our distance,” another sighed.

They genuinely felt bad for Stella, but there was nothing they could do to help.

At this point, absolutely no one dared to challenge Elnora.
