Chapter 655 Too Many Shenanigans

Chapter 655 Too Many Shenanigans

Albert didn’t respond to Stella. With an indifferent gaze, he acted like he didn’t even hear her.

Stella refused to budge, stubbornly locking her eyes on Albert.

Seeing this, Kailee let out a soft sigh and spoke up, “Stella, let’s go.”

Stella still didn’t budge, even after Kailee called out to her.

Kailee shook her head.

At that moment, Albert lifted his gaze to Stella, his eyes indifferent and completely devoid of emotion.

“In this world, there’s no such thing as ‘what if’. One has to pay for every choice one makes,” Albert said.

Stella’s expression shifted dramatically. She bit down hard on her lip, her lips turning pale from the pressure.

Seeing this, Kailee felt uneasy and glanced at Albert.

“Albert…” she said softly.

Stella was still sick, after all.

Albert’s gaze slid past Stella and settled on Kailee, his voice deep and steady as he said, “Ms. Fuller, I’m already married.”

Kailee could only stay silent.

Stella sobbed softly, then turned and hurried into the hospital.

In Frency, Elnora and Elara went back to the hotel together after dinner.

Once she was back in her room, Elnora checked the time, then grabbed her phone and tried calling Albert.

Albert didn’t pick up.

After trying twice, Elnora didn’t call again. Instead, she went to freshen up in the bathroom.

As soon as Elnora finished freshening up and stepped out of the bathroom, she heard a knock at her door.

Elnora walked over and opened it, only to see Elara standing there, phone in hand and looking furious.

Elara said angrily, “If Mr. Campbell insists on shielding his ex-girlfriend, can’t he at least avoid making it so obvious? Every single time, you get dragged right into the spotlight.”

Hearing Elara’s rant, Elnora lowered her gaze and glanced at the screen of Elara’s phone.

Elara then pulled up Port City’s headline news and held it out for Elnora to see.

The headline read: [No matter how clever the newlywed wife is, she still can’t beat the old flame.]

This time, Port City media didn’t mention Albert by name, but the photos they posted featured him and Stella together.

Elnora glanced at the photo. Albert was shielding Stella from the Taylor Family. Her expression cooled. “Didn’t I tell you to stop following their drama? Why waste your time?” Elnora said.

Elara took a deep breath and grumbled under her breath, “How could I not care? If I didn’t keep tabs, who knows what kind of rumors they’d be spreading about you?”

Elnora only cares about work. If Elara didn’t keep an eye on the gossip, Elnora would be clueless about everything else.

Elara clenched her teeth angrily.

She said, “If he’s still hung up on his ex, I don’t get why he agreed to marry you in the first place. Any guy who gets married without moving on is trash.

“Honestly, he deserves to be exiled to Craicaville to plant trees, like Zack.”

Elara was so furious that she blurted out Zack’s name. Then she suddenly remembered something and bit her lip.

Elnora didn’t even flinch at the mention of any name, her expression perfectly calm.

“Get some rest. We’ve got a lot to handle tomorrow,” Elnora said.

Elara nodded awkwardly, saying, “Got it.”

As Elnora was about to close the door, Elara quietly asked, “Ms. Finley, you didn’t fall for Mr. Campbell because you got intimate with him, did you?”

Elnora responded with a simple “mm.”

Only then did Elara feel a bit more at ease and head back to her own room.

Back when Mila and Zack cheated, Elnora kept a poker face, but she poured all her energy into work, basically working around the clock.

Every day, even after Elara clocked out, Elnora’s office lights were still on. And the next morning, when Elara showed up, Elnora was already buried in work.

If it weren’t for the fact that Elnora wore a different suit every day, Elara would’ve thought she never left the

office.

Elnora’s health took a beating during that time.

Heartbreak tastes worse than medicine.

Elara had watched Elnora tough it out and make it through.

Elnora had finally gotten her health back, and Elara hated the idea of Elnora getting caught up in romance again.

After all, from the very beginning, Albert was never someone one could count on when it came to love.

After Elara left, Elnora closed the door and stepped back into her room.

Just then, her phone buzzed on the desk.

Elnora walked over and glanced at the screen. It was a call from Albert.

Elnora stared at the phone for a long time, but even after the screen went dark, she never reached out to answer it.

Albert felt a wave of frustration when Elnora didn’t pick up his call.

He’d forgotten his phone in the car earlier, so he missed her call the first time around.

Not knowing what Elnora was up to, Albert texted Elara, but she didn’t reply either.

Albert sat in his car, waiting for about ten minutes, then dialed Elnora’s number again.

This time, Elnora answered.

A flicker of joy flashed in Albert’s eyes. “Elnora…”

But before he could get another word out, Elnora’s cold voice cut him off.

“I’m a bit tired today. I need to rest. If you have anything to say, we can talk about it tomorrow,” she said.

Elnora’s icy words left Albert completely speechless.

“Oh,” he muttered.

Elnora hung up almost instantly.

Albert sat in the driver’s seat, staring at his phone for a long time. After a while, he let out a low, bitter chuckle. Whether it was self-derision or resentment, it was unclear.

Right then, Kaelin’s call came in.

“Heard Ms. Finley’s been out on business lately. Must be pretty lonely holding down the fort by yourself, huh? Albert, I’m giving you a chance to come out and grab a drink,” Kaelin joked.

Albert replied, “Thanks for the invite, but I’ll pass.”

Kaelin said, “Not coming? What, got your hands full playing hero for some girl?”

Albert frowned. “What?”

Kaelin snickered and sent Albert the photo. “See it for yourself.”

Albert opened the chat and saw the picture that Stella was hiding behind him. His expression turned grim.

He shot a steely look across the street.

Earlier, when the Taylor Family tried to take Stella away, there was a car parked across the road.

But at some point, that car had vanished without a trace.

Albert stood there, his face stone-cold and his eyes full of frost.

He hung up on Kaelin, dialed Ludwig, explained the situation, and gave him a hard deadline.

“You’ve got half an hour to make him spill everything and bring him to me. If you fail, your bonus gets wiped out,” Albert said, his voice sharp and dangerous.

Ludwig felt a chill run down his spine. He instantly agreed and got moving.

Ludwig grumbled to himself, cursing out Stella and the whole Taylor Family.

He thought. ‘Seriously, is it so hard to keep things low-key? They just can’t help but stir up drama every single

time.’
