Chapter 654 Why This Mass

Albert’s expression was indifferent as he glanced over Belinda and Arnetta.

Then he calmly said to Kailee, “Ms. Fuller, let’s go. This is their family business. It’s not our place to interfere.”

Kailee took a deep breath, shaken by how cold Albert sounded, and immediately shook her head.

She said firmly, “No, Albert. Stella is my student. I can’t stand by and watch her get taken away by the Taylor Family. Please, help her.”

Kailee’s eyes were full of pleading as she looked at Albert.

Albert frowned and replied calmly, “Ms. Fuller, we have to learn to respect other people’s fate.”

Over the years, he’d helped Stella out more times than he could count.

But Stella just couldn’t bring herself to cut ties with the Taylor Family.

In the end, Stella had brought all this on herself. Every step that led to this moment was her own choice.

Kailee frowned deeply and shook her head.

Stella couldn’t believe Albert didn’t even spare her a single glance.

She bit down hard on her lip, tears streaming down her face.

Deep down, she knew that if she left with the Taylor Family today, it would be nearly impossible to change her fate.

Stella took a deep breath, her resolve hardening. She wasn’t going to let the Taylor Family push her around

anymore.

Albert definitely didn’t want to see her acting timid and helpless.

Stella jerked herself free from Arnetta’s hold. She said, “No, I’m getting treatment. You aren’t paying for my medical bills, so you have no right to take me away.”

Arnetta’s expression darkened as Stella resisted. When she tried to grab Stella again, Stella quickly slipped behind Albert, gripping his arm as if her life depended on it.

Stella pleaded, “Albert, please, help me. Didn’t you say that if I left the Taylor Family, you’d help me?

“I finally get it now. They never saw me as family, and I’m done trying to please them. I want to cut them off for good. Please, help me.”

Stella looked so vulnerable as she spoke.

She clung tightly to Albert’s arm, hiding behind him as if he were her only shield.

Arnetta took a step forward.

Kailee quickly reached out, blocking Arnetta with her arms.

Kailee said, “Ms. Taylor, if you dare to take Stella away without her consent, I’ll call the police and press charges for illegal detention.

“I wonder if the Taylor Family can handle any more pressure right now.

“I may not have money or power in Port City, but I’ve got plenty of students who have my back.”

Kailee shot Arnetta a stern, no-nonsense look.

Arnetta hesitated, glancing at Stella hiding behind Albert, and didn’t dare make a move.

Just then, a black sedan rolled up and stopped right in front of them.

Marcelo got out, his gaze heavy as he looked over Arnetta and Belinda, then turned to Albert.

He said, “Albert, Stella is my daughter. She’s sick. As her father, I take this seriously. I want to bring her home for treatment. Why are you blocking me?”

Albert heard Marcelo’s words and pulled his arm away from Stella’s grip.

Stella’s expression changed, and she grabbed onto Albert’s sleeve in a panic, holding on tightly.

“Albert… I don’t want to go back with him,” she said, her voice breaking.

Marcelo snorted dismissively, his sharp gaze sweeping over Stella before he turned to Albert with a frosty look.

He said, “Albert, you’re already married, yet you keep stringing Stella along, making her follow you without any real status. That’s cruel.

“Today, for the Taylor Family’s dignity, I’m taking her with me.”

Stella shook her head, her eyes full of desperate hope as she looked at Albert.

But Albert stepped aside, making a ‘go ahead’ gesture.

Both Marcelo and Stella froze, caught off guard by his action.

Marcelo frowned and stepped forward, reaching for Stella’s arm, but Kailee intervened, stopping him in his tracks.

“Mr. Taylor, I have a student who wants to talk to you,” Kailee said, her voice calm but firm.

Kailee handed her phone to Marcelo.

Marcelo took the phone, still looking confused. But whatever the person on the other end said, his face instantly turned ashen.

After a moment, he handed the phone back to Kailee and left the hospital with Belinda and Arnetta.

“Dad, weren’t we supposed to bring Stella home today?” Arnetta asked, her voice full of confusion.

Marcelo shot Arnetta a sharp glare.

Arnetta pressed her lips together, not daring to say another word, and got into the car.

After the Taylor Family left, Stella stood off to the side, still in shock.

She bit down hard on her lip, lifting her gaze to Albert, tears streaming down her face.

She whispered, “Albert…”

“You didn’t want them to take me away, did you? You just resent me for never having the courage to stand by your side, right?”

Albert gave Stella a calm, almost indifferent look, his voice low and steady as he said, “You’re overthinking it.”

Stella bit down hard on her lip, refusing to say a word.

Kailee sighed softly. “Stella, head back inside and get some rest. The Taylor Family won’t bother you for a while.”

But Stella stayed rooted to the spot, her gaze locked on Albert.

Without sparing Stella a glance, Albert turned to Kailee.

“Ms. Fuller, let me take you home,” he said.

Kailee nodded, but when she noticed Stella frozen in place, refusing to go inside, she turned to Albert and said, “Albert, I need to get checked out first. They pushed me down earlier, and now I’m feeling sore all over.” Albert frowned slightly.

His gaze lingered on Kailee, but he didn’t move right away.

He paused for a moment, then spoke quietly to Kailee, “Ms. Fuller, I’ll have someone from the hospital come out and take you for your checkup. Later, I’ll arrange for a driver to take you home.”

Kailee was taken aback by Albert’s words, and it hit her. He was trying to avoid any unnecessary rumors.

Kailee’s voice turned serious as she said, “Albert, I’m asking you to come inside with me for the checkup, not to take Stella in. Why are you acting like this…?”

Albert cut her off. “Ms. Fuller, I’m married now. I’d rather keep my distance from some people to avoid

unnecessary trouble.”

Stella’s expression flickered, the pain unmistakable on her face.

Kailee glanced at Stella, who looked deathly pale. After a moment of silence, she spoke in a low, serious tone,

If you won’t come in with me for the checkup, fine. I’ll go in alone.”

With that, Kailee turned and walked into the hospital.

Stella bit her lip, her eyes rimmed red as she looked up at Albert.

She said, “Albert, I know you have issues with me, but Ms. Fuller is innocent. She…”

Albert’s expression stayed cold, saying, “If you know I have issues with you, why do you keep coming to me?”

Stella froze for a moment, then tears spilled down her cheeks.

Kailee walked a few steps, then realized Stella wasn’t following. She stopped and called out in a serious tone, Stella, come with me for the checkup.”

Stella nodded, her face streaked with tears.

She turned to follow Kailee, but after a few steps, she stopped and looked back at Albert.

“Albert, if I’d chosen to leave the Taylor Family back then, would things have turned out differently for us?” Stella asked.
