Chapter 10
Silas’s POV
I stood frozen in the dim corridor, watching her walk away.
She had slapped me.

Harper who had always been so quiet around me, who even breathed softly in my presence, had used every bit of her strength to strike her Alpha.
I could still see her eyes. It wasn’t just anger; it was the look of someone whose soul had been completely crushed. It was a mix of deep humiliation and total despair.
And the way her eyes had turned red as she turned to leave, refusing to let a single tear fall… it burned into my mind.
Why was she acting like this?
I just wanted her to calm down so things wouldn’t spiral out of control in front of the Alliance.
That kiss… my Alpha instincts had told me it was the fastest, most direct way to stop her from acting out and embarrassing herself in front of the other packs.
I had assumed… wasn’t this what she had always wanted? To be near me, to be touched by me. I had finally given it to her-so why was she even angrier?
Alpha?” Chloe Miller’s timid voice came from the crack of the heavy oak doors. She peeked out, her eyes still red from the panic earlier. “Is… is everything okay out here? Harper…”
I snapped back to reality. I pushed down the strange, heavy ache forming in my chest.
It’s nothing,” I interrupted her coldly. “Go back and finish your presentation.”
walked back into the hall, forcing myself to focus on Chloe’s words. But those red, hate-filled eyes kept flashing in my mind. My wolf was pacing restlessly, whining at the back of my mind in a way he had never done before.
After the summit ended, Chloe seemed to want to say something to me, but I cut her off. I needed to be alone.
returned to my Alpha office and closed the door. I tried to read through the border patrol reports, but my focus was completely
¡one.
The black ink on the paper seemed to turn into Harper’s pale face.
What exactly am I to you? A worthless piece of trash?”
Silas Vance, you truly disgust me.”
fer questions echoed in my ears, over and over again.
couldn’t take it anymore.
reached out with my mind, trying to open the Mind-link to contact her.
Nothing.
Jsually, I could easily feel her quiet, steady presence at the edge of my mind. But now, I felt nothing but a thick, impenetrable wall. She had completely blocked me out.
I frowned, my heart beating a little faster. I pulled out my phone and dialed her number.
The number you have dialed is unavailable…”
The cold, automated voice played.
Turned off? I tried again. Still off.

A strange, dark sense of panic began to coil around my heart like a snake.
I rarely contacted her first. Usually, Harper was the one reporting every minute detail of my schedule to me. She was always there. I even had to strain my memory just to recall which room she had moved to in the Omega dorms.
I decided to find her at the dorm. Some things needed to be said face-to-face-about the antidote, the kiss, and… the Mating Ceremony.
I walked quickly to the old dormitory building and knocked on the door to Room 402.
No answer.
I knocked again, harder this time.
A low growl rumbled in my chest, but the room remained deathly silent.
The door across the hall opened, and a young Omega poked his head out. The boy looked terrified upon seeing me standing there in the dark.
‘A-Alpha Silas? Are you looking for Harper? I… I don’t think she lives here anymore.”
My heart sank. “Do you know where she went?”
The boy shook his head quickly. “No idea, Alpha…”
I stood frozen. For the first time, I realized that if Harper didn’t actively seek me out, I had no idea where to even begin looking for
her.
For ten years, she had always been the one chasing me, waiting outside my office, and serving my pack. I had long grown used to her presence. She was like air, like water-taken for granted, always within reach.
It wasn’t until the “air” suddenly vanished that I felt a hollow, suffocating emptiness.
Back at my office, I ordered my Beta to search the entire territory.
Ten minutes later, Beta Davis returned. He looked nervous. “Alpha, the pack portal shows she took an approved transfer. The eason column is blank.”
Davis swallowed hard. “I also sent a guard to check the mating estate. The Housing Manager said the keys were returned yesterday. The house is completely empty.”
She had simply disappeared. Just like that-after I had publicly humiliated her, and after that kiss.
A frantic panic I had never experienced before began to gnaw at my usually calm nerves. My wolf howled in distress, violently cratching at the walls of my mind.
remembered the way she had looked at me in the corridor. It wasn’t a female throwing a tantrum. It was… a final goodbye.
The realization made my chest feel as if it were being violently ripped open by an invisible claw.
