The sound of the strike was sharp and loud in the empty corridor. I used all my human strength. My palm stung with a numb, burning pain.
Silas’s head snapped to the side. A clear red handprint bloomed on his pale cheek. He stood there, completely stunned. He clearly never expected me to strike him.
My tears finally broke free, falling uncontrollably. My voice shook so hard every word felt like it was being ripped from my throat.
“You think I caused a scene out there just to get this from you?”
“Silas Vance, you truly disgust me.”
Silas remained frozen. His face burned, but as he looked into my eyes-eyes now filled with utter hatred-he found himself unable to speak.
I didn’t look at him again. I turned and shoved the heavy doors open..
I didn’t go back to the summit. I didn’t go back to argue about the truth.
Everything had lost its meaning.
I wiped the tears from my face with the back of my hand and went straight to the pack’s medical tent. I opened the locked cabinet where I kept my research.
Without a moment of hesitation, I took out every single handwritten note, every formula, and every test log for the Silver Antidote.
I threw them into the fire pit and watched them burn to ash.
Even if I was leaving, I wouldn’t let Chloe Miller succeed with her stolen glory.
A few hours later, I stood at the border of the pack territory, waiting for the transport truck.
The engine roared to life. I grabbed my small bag and climbed into the back without looking at the Headquarters one last time.
As the truck drove into the dark, frozen wilderness, I pulled out my phone and blocked Silas’s number. Then, I closed my eyes and nentally built a thick wall, permanently blocking his Mind-link.
had finally put an end to this ten-year-long nightmare.
