Elias and I both knew the truth.
After I lost the first two pregnancies, he’d stabbed himself in the stomach-but hit the wrong spot.
The doctor said his chances of ever having a child were almost zero.
When I found out I was pregnant, I cried and laughed at the same time, thanking God for the miracle.
I kept the test results in my pocket.
I was going to tell him after the rehearsal.
I’d imagined it a hundred times-how excited he’d be.
We’d pick out nursery furniture. Come up with names, one for every letter.
We’d watch our baby take their first steps, run into our arms, call us Mom and Dad.
I planned everything.
Except him.
His betrayal came before his cruelty.
And now, I was giving it all back-the child, and those stupid ten years.
The room exploded into chaos.
Elias moved too fast, knocking over the table, almost dropping to his knees in front of me.
There was blood everywhere.
Soaking through my pants. Spreading across the carpet.
His whole body shook, his mouth hanging open.
He reached for me, but didn’t dare touch me. His eyes were red.
“I didn’t know. I swear I didn’t know. Samantha, our baby-our baby-
“Call 911. Now.”
He fumbled for his phone.
He had just dialed the three numbers when Sophie snatched it and hung up.

Then he grabbed onto her like a lifeline and stepped aside to let her in.

She knelt down. pretending to check on me.
Her long, sharp nails dug into my abdomen, over and over-hard.
The pain was blinding.
I couldn’t see. Couldn’t make a sound.
Blood kept pouring out. I could barely breathe.
Her voice dropped, bitter and low. “One bastard wasn’t enough. I want two dead”
She shoved me aside, shaking her head like I was beyond saving.
“Samantha, you’re done.”
“With this much blood loss, a normal person would already be dead. You think everyone here is stupid?”
Elias grabbed her wrist. “What are you talking about?”
Sophie let out an exaggerated sigh. “Elias, she’s lying. I can check a pulse-she’s not pregnant. She’s fine. Who knows how
many fake blood packs she’s hiding.”
Elias looked at her, then at me. His voice turned cold.
‘So it’s fake?”
Sophie hooked her arm through his, playing generous.
‘She went this far just to avoid apologizing. Fine. I forgive her. Let’s go. Once everyone leaves, she’ll stop acting and get up
on her own.
With the last of my strength. I grabbed his pant leg.
