Chapter 2
In that moment, all cameras focused on us.
The entire venue fell silent, even the director forgot to cut the feed.
David was frantic offstage, yelling, “Emily! Stop this nonsense! Come back here!”
Alexander stood not far away, watching me coldly.
Under countless flashing lights, the delivery guy slowly
took off his helmet.
A handsome face was revealed under the lights, with deep, sharp features.
Especially those eyes, captivating.
“You’re sure?” His voice was clear and cool, not at all like someone who spent his days rushing around.
I nodded. “Sure.”
He smiled faintly. “Okay, I’ll marry you.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, David charged towards the stage, only to be pulled back by Alexander.
“If you go up there now, you’ll be playing right into her hands.”
“What do you mean?”
Alexander scoffed coldly. “She’s just throwing a tantrum for our benefit. She’s been pampered since she was a child; how could she actually marry a delivery guy…”
I heard it, but said nothing.
My brother, Alexander, and I grew up together, inseparable.
Until five years ago, I went abroad to study, immersed myself in my academics, and gradually lost touch with home.
My parents grew depressed over my distance, and the Williams household lost its former cheer.
Then, Sophie appeared.

She was the granddaughter of my grandmother’s cousin, and there was a slight resemblance between us.
After hearing her parents died in a car accident, my parents immediately took her in.
Sophie was lively, well-behaved, sweet-talking, and knew how to please people. She quickly won the whole family’s affection.
Gradually, the Williams household became lively again because of her arrival, while I, far away in a foreign country, seemed to be forgotten by everyone.
Until two years ago, when I returned home after finishing my studies.
I thought I’d be met with the joy of reunion, but instead, my family was worried about Sophie feeling jealous and deliberately kept their distance from me.
I still remember the night I returned, overhearing my mother comforting Sophie outside the door.
“Sophie, you will always be Mom and Dad’s daughter,

that will never change.”
“Your sister has been abroad for so long, who knows what she’s been through? Her personality has turned so cold and hard. She’s not as understanding and sweet as you
are.”
I felt like I’d been plunged into an ice cellar, standing frozen on the spot.
The news of the Williams heiress marrying a delivery guy spread like wildfire and quickly became a trending topic.
When I returned to the villa, the whole family was sitting on the living room sofa chatting.
After listening to David’s account, my father slammed the coffee table. “Nonsense! That wretched girl has disgraced the Williams family!”
My mother, organizing her new purchases, glanced at him dismissively. “When Emily comes back, don’t yell at her, or she’ll make sure the whole family has no peace.”
“She’s definitely angry that her brother embarrassed her qn the show, that’s why she’s acting out and saying she’!!5

marry the delivery guy.”
“She doesn’t even know his background, how could she actually marry him? She’s not stupid!”
Sophie, sitting to the side, started crying pitifully. “Mom, it’s all my fault. If Big Brother hadn’t stood up for me, Sister wouldn’t be acting like this…”
My mother wiped her tears with a tissue. “Silly child, ever since your sister came back, we’ve had to accommodate her, and you’ve suffered a lot of grievances.”
“Today was just a joke with her, it’s no big deal.”
My father chimed in, “Sophie, this isn’t your fault!”
“Your sister is just throwing a tantrum. She wouldn’t really joke about her own lifelong happiness.”
As she spoke, my mother picked up a new Chanel bag and handed it to Sophie. “Sweetie, quick, see if you like this color. Don’t wait until your sister comes back and tries to snatch it from you!”
Just then, my mother’s peripheral vision caught me

standing in the entryway.
The bag in her hand fell onto the sofa with a thud.
Meeting my gaze, everyone’s faces were filled with awkwardness.
If this had happened before, I would have thrown a hysterical fit.
Questioning my mother why she guarded against me like a thief, when I had never fought Sophie for anything.
Questioning my father and brother why their eyes only saw Sophie.
Perhaps I was just too tired lately.
Or maybe, because I had already decided to leave, I no longer held any expectations for this family.
Under everyone’s nervous stares, I said nothing and turned to go upstairs.
