Chapter 164
I really need to have the cleaning staff come down here, I thought to myself.
“Any luck?” I dared to ask.
Evelyn tilted her head back and sighed. “You were right to tell me that there isn’t any known natural cure for Wolfsbane. So, I figured, why not approach this problem from a different angle?”
I raised my brows. “And what have you considered thus far?”
“Instead of trying to cancel out the Wolfsbane directly, I thought maybe we could try and treat this as any other poison-one that can be absorbed out of the bloodstream.”
I cast my gaze down at her personal notes. She’d circled the words ‘charcoal’ and ’emetics’.
The pieces of her jumbled puzzle were beginning to click into place for me. “You’re trying to not only draw out the poison but make them expel it themselves,” I concluded.
“Precisely,” she confirmed. “Now, the main issue with this plan is that it may not solve the problem all in one go. We may have to administer this so-called cure more than once.”
“So, what? Is that really the only real issue with this plan? Evelyn… You’re fucking brilliant,” I told her.
She really may have just solved our feral wolf problem at its core.
Her shocked expression due to my blunt affirmation was soon accompanied by an adorable blush that traveled over her cheeks. The two of us chuckled with bubbling excitement as I wrapped my arms
around her and swung her around.
“Kane!” she giggled. “Hold on, would you? I’m glad we found a possible solution; however, there is still one major obstacle that’s stopping it all.”
I pulled back to glance down at her. “What’s that?”
“I need certain equipment. You know, things that can only really be found in a chemistry lab.”
“So, we’ll build one,” I assured her.
I sensed Evelyn’s skepticism, which made me all the more determined to provide her with what she needed. That same day, I reached out to a group of known contractors who were all willing to help build a make-shift Chem lab in a reasonable amount of time.
I specifically had them set up the lab on the far wing of the house where she wouldn’t be disturbed.
Once all the proper equipment was installed, Evelyn was able to jump right into the process of getting everything ready to create our cure.
The only major drawback that I instantly noticed was the significant amount of pressure it placed on her. She had her evening training sessions with me, her usual rounds in the medical ward, her one-on-one
treatment with the feral rogues-now she had to somehow find the time to work in the lab.

It was too much.

And as the week drew on, I could visibly see the negative effects taking their toll on her. Dark rings began to form around her eyes. As soon as it came time to go to sleep, she would pass out the moment her head hit the pillow.
If she wasn’t careful, she was going to end up burning herself out.
Pulling myself from a deep train of thought, I got up from my desk and headed toward the kitchens for another cup of coffee.
“Can you believe it? Luna Evelyn believes that she’s found a possible cure for the feral rogues,” one of the staff said with excitement.
Yes, the only bright side to everything was that word had been traveling around regarding Evelyn’s heroism at the gathering as well as her determination to find a cure.
“That’s incredible,” another said. “But have you seen her lately? The poor woman looks as though she’s about to collapse off her feet.”
My whole body froze. Shit.
“That’s it,” I muttered to myself. “I’m not going to let her work herself sick again.”
I quickly turned around and headed to the far other side of the house.
