Chapter 6
Olivia knelt on the ground, her brow furrowed, tears falling as if they cost her nothing.
“How can you think of me that way? I’ve never done anything to hurt Vivian. Besides, she tried to harm me multiple
times. You know that well.”
Ethan took a deep breath, still holding me tightly, refusing to let go.
No one knew how long passed. Finally, a doctor could not help but step forward.
“Mr. Pierce, it’s better to let her rest in peace sooner. It’s the height of summer. Her body won’t hold up.”
“Nonsense! Vivian isn’t dead. She wouldn’t abandon me.”
No one could persuade him. But if I wasn’t cremated soon, it would affect my journey home.
I drifted over to him. The jade ring on his finger suddenly fell off and shattered on the floor.
He bent down to pick it up. The fragments cut deep into his palm.
Blood stained his clothes. He lowered his eyes and asked me.
“Vivian, you must have been in so much pain. You won’t even leave me something to remember you by. Are you trying
to leave me?”
He muttered to himself, then finally handed my body over to the doctors.
Ethan stumbled forward in a daze and went straight back to my room.
He picked up the scattered letters and put the broken trinkets back together.
When his gaze fell upon six neatly arranged tiny outfits, the pain made him feel as though he might die.
He had personally taken each child from me,
At first, he thought the children’s deaths were accidents.
But five children all failed to survive under Olivia’s care–that was no accident.
How laughable that he had been so blinded that he never once saw Olivia clearly.
He touched every piece of furniture in the room, tracing the marks of my life.
Then he lay down on the bed with the tiny clothes in his hands and wept continuously.
Olivia stumbled into my room, clutching her heaving chest, and knelt directly.

“I never wanted Vivian to die. Her death has nothing to do with me.”
“If Ethan thinks I framed her, then I’ll prove my innocence with my death.”
As she spoke, she tried to jump out the window.
The window was right there, but Ethan made no move to stop her.
She pulled back, looking back at him in disbelief, sobbing.
“Do you want me to die in front of you too before you’ll forgive me?”
He snapped back to his senses and stared at her blankly.
His mind was full of questions he couldn’t answer.
Olivia was frightened by his stare. She shrank back, trembling.
But Ethan grabbed her by the ankle, pinned her shoulders down, and questioned her in a cold, merciless voice.
“I will find out whether Vivian’s death has anything to do with you. And the child who didn’t even live three days—I will
find out about that too.”
“Now, get back to your room. Don’t come out until I give the order.”
