Chapter 647 Feeling Down
Chapter 647 Feeling Down
Elnora wasn’t surprised that Albert had her back.
Albert’d always been the type to value relationships and stand up for his friends.
Now, Wilbur Campbell was looking for drama.
Of course, Albert would step in for her.
Elnora made her way to her office chair and sat down, her expression calm as ever.
Seeing this, Wilbur’s eyes flashed with irritation.
He said to Albert in a low, stern tone, “The dinner tonight is of great importance. I went through a lot to get the big bosses to come. Even if you’re swamped, you’d better clear your schedule.
“Albert, I’m setting things up for you. The Campbell Group absolutely can’t fall into the hands of people who aren’t family.”
When Wilbur said “people who aren’t family,” he fixed his gaze on Elnora, his eyes full of resentment.
Elnora met Wilbur’s gaze head-on. When she saw the hatred in his eyes, she held his gaze, unfazed.
She knew exactly why Wilbur hated her.
According to Reese, Wilbur had been eyeing the president position for ages.
For a while, everyone thought Wilbur was a shoo-in for the job this year.
But then Elnora was parachuted in, and all of Wilbur’s plans went up in smoke.
Reese would never let Wilbur sit in a senior management seat.
Unable to go up against Reese, Wilbur redirected all his resentment toward Elnora, sure she had taken what should have been his.
Albert was clearly dissatisfied with Wilbur’s attitude toward Elnora.
His voice was flat and indifferent as he said, “Uncle Wilbur, who’s the outsider here?”
Wilbur caught the icy look in Albert’s eyes and was momentarily stunned. He didn’t press the issue with Elnora, instead saying in a low, stern voice, “Be at the restaurant at six sharp. I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
With that, he turned and left Elnora’s office.
Elnora sat down in her office chair. When she glanced up, she saw Albert looking at her, his face full of guilt. Before he could start making excuses for Wilbur, she cut him off.
She said, “Go ahead. I’ve arranged for the chauffeur to pick me up.
“Connections are key to the company’s future. If you want to join Campbell Group, getting to know these people early is actually a smart move.”
Albert spoke up, “Let’s go together.”
Elnora refused. “No. It’s your uncle Wilbur’s dinner, and he’s never liked me. If I go, it’ll make things awkward, and I’ll end up looking bad in front of those people.”
Albert had to admit, Elnora made a lot of sense.
At the same time, Albert couldn’t help but feel embarrassed by how out of line Wilbur had been to Elnora.
Elnora wasn’t bothered by Wilbur’s attitude toward her.
She hardly interacted with Wilbur to begin with.
Plus, Reese had told her on her very first day at the company not to involve Wilbur in anything.
Wilbur’s spot at Campbell Group was honestly pretty awkward. He was caught in limbo, not moving up or down.
It was perfectly normal for him to be bitter about it.

Just a few minutes after Wilbur left, his assistant came knocking on the door.
“Mr. Campbell, Mr. Wilbur is already waiting for you downstairs. He asked you to come down as soon as possible,” the assistant said.
Albert frowned when he heard that and replied in a low voice, “I’ll be right there.”
Elnora quietly tidied up her desk, her gaze lowered in calm thought.
Albert let her know he was heading out, saw her nod, and then turned to leave.
After straightening up her desk, Elnora got up and walked out of the office.
By the time she came downstairs, Albert had gotten into Wilbur’s car and left.
Elnora walked out of the building, glanced up and saw the chauffeur’s car waiting by the curb. She picked up her pace and headed straight for it.
Just as she stepped out of the building, someone called out to her.
“Ms. Finley.”
Elnora turned toward the voice and saw the girl who had been with Stella at the hospital that day, standing right next to the security guard.
She was holding a coffee cup.
As soon as Elnora turned to look, the girl suddenly raised the coffee cup and splashed the coffee all over Elnora’s face.
Elnora didn’t even have time to react.
The security guard quickly pinned the girl, Wendelin Leavitt, down.
Wendelin stared at Elnora, her eyes full of hate.
“Ms. Finley, Stella’s had it so rough. Why are you still picking on her? Do you even have a heart?” Wendelin yelled.
Elnora furrowed her brows, fixing a cold, icy gaze on Wendelin.
Wendelin kept fighting against the security guard’s grip.
“Let me go. You’re just security guards. What gives you the right to detain me? I’ll press charges against you,” she yelled.
Elnora, unfazed, pulled off the silk scarf from around her neck, wiped the coffee from her face, and fixed a frosty stare on Wendelin.
“You’ve actually reminded me of something,” Elnora said.
When Wendelin met Elnora’s gaze, she looked startled, panic flickering in her eyes.
Just then, the chauffeur hurried over, holding some tissues and offering them to Elnora.
“Here, Ms. Finley, wipe it off,” he said.
Elnora brushed aside the chauffeur’s tissues and strode right up to Wendelin, looking down at her like she was nothing.
‘I’ve said it before; Elnora sneered, ‘I have zero interest in dealing with pathetic types like you, whose brains are only filled with romance and drama.’
Wendelin bit her lip so hard it nearly drew blood, anxiety clear in her eyes, but she still wouldn’t admit defeat.
“You’re all talk,” she snapped. “You promised Stella you’d let her have Albert back, but what happened? You say one thing and do another, putting pressure on her behind the scenes.
“I heard you’ve had your own health issues, too. We’re not asking you to be sympathetic, but could you at least act like a decent person?”
Elnora gave Wendelin a frosty look, her expression icy as she paused for a moment before speaking to the chauffeur.

“Take her to the police station. Make sure the lawyer presses charges. No settling. No compromise,” Elnora
ordered.
The chauffeur nodded right away.
With that, Elnora strode toward the car.
Just then, Stella got out of another car.
“Ms. Finley, please go easy on Wendelin. She’s…” Stella pleaded.
As Stella spoke, her gaze drifted to Elnora’s neck. When she caught sight of the faint, suggestive mark on Elnora’s pale skin, she was stunned, her expression going blank for a moment.
“She acted out of impulse and went too far. I hope you can be magnanimous and let it go this once,” Stella pleaded.
By the end, Stella’s voice was barely a whisper, and her eyes were getting teary.
Seeing this, Wendelin quickly spoke up, “Stella, don’t plead for me. I did it, and I’ll own up to it. Worst case, it’s just fifteen days in lockup. No big deal,”
She knew fifteen days was the max for stirring up trouble. Honestly, she wasn’t fazed.
Stella bit down hard on her lip, her eyes red and watery. With that sickly, fragile look about her, she seemed heartbreakingly pitiful.
The incident had drawn the attention of the folks at the Campbell Group front desk.
It didn’t take long before the whole thing was blowing up in the company’s private chat groups.
Elnora looked at Stella with a cool, detached expression and spoke flatly, “Ms. Taylor, your friend claims I’ve been bullying you. Honestly, I don’t get it. How exactly have I bullied you when we haven’t even crossed paths lately?”
Stella bit her lip and murmured, “It’s all just a misunderstanding.”
She couldn’t bring herself to meet Elnora’s eyes as she said it.
‘I can’t help feeling so down, knowing Elnora and Albert have already been intimate, Stella thought, her heart aching.
