Chapter 658 Cowards

Chapter 658 Cowards

Elnora walked past Albert, her expression icy and indifferent, heading straight for her own room.

Albert caught the chill in her demeanor, a flicker of complicated emotion passing through his eyes before he quickly followed after her.

“Elnora, I…” Albert started, his voice hesitant.

Elnora stopped in her tracks.

Albert immediately halted behind her.

Elnora turned around, her gaze briefly passing over Albert before settling on Elara. She spoke calmly, “Elara, please arrange a room for Mr. Campbell so he can leave his luggage.”

Elara nodded right away. “Yes, Ms. Finley.”

Albert fell silent.

Elara’s quick response rubbed Albert the wrong way.

Albert shot a glance at Elara, who was already on the phone with the hotel front desk, then turned to Elnora.

“Wouldn’t it be better if we shared a room? We could save a bit of money,” Albert suggested.

Elnora looked at him with a calm, unruffled gaze. “Mr. Campbell, are we going to pinch pennies over something this small?”

Elara had finished talking to the hotel front desk. Hearing the exchange between Elnora and Albert, she mustered up the courage to chime in.

Elara said, “Yeah, Mr. Campbell.

“You’re always so generous. The other day, you donated about 100,000 dollars to the hospital without blinking. A hotel room is barely three hundred bucks. No need to be so stingy, right?”

Albert fell silent.

He wished Elara would keep quiet, but then remembered she’d been their bridesmaid at the wedding and was always Elnora’s right-hand woman.

Even if he didn’t mind offending Elara, he couldn’t risk offending Elnora.

Albert said, “Elnora, I’m not going to interfere with Stella anymore.

“I came here this time because…”

Elnora didn’t give Albert a chance to finish. She turned her back to him, opened the door to her room, and cut him off coldly.

“Mr. Campbell, I’m tired. I don’t want to listen to any more pointless talk,” Elnora said.

With that, she walked into her room and shut the door behind her.

But the door didn’t close all the way. Albert hurried over and caught the door with his hand, stopping it from shutting.

“I don’t think this is pointless talk. This is…” Albert tried to explain.

Elnora frowned at him, her gaze cold and impatient. Clearly, she had no interest in discussing this with Albert.

Seeing her expression, the words Albert wanted to say wouldn’t come out.

He could tell Elnora didn’t give a damn about whatever was going on between him and Stella. She didn’t want to hear it and was downright annoyed.

He fell silent, not saying another word.

Elnora gave him a cold look. Seeing he’d gone quiet, her eyes flicked to his hand clutching the doorframe.

“Mr. Campbell, can you let me close the door now?” Elnora said.

Defeat flashed in Albert’s eyes as he slowly let go of the doorframe.

“Elnora, did you ever even think about…” Albert started.

But before Albert could finish, the only answer he got was the sound of the door closing.

The answer couldn’t be clearer.

Elnora had never wanted a life with him.

He was kidding himself the whole time.

Albert thought that when Elnora gave him her first time and even let him spend the night with her, it meant she was finally letting him in, letting him be a part of her life.

Turns out, it meant nothing.

Albert took a deep breath. Every breath tugged at his heart, making it ache.

He stared at the tightly shut door, suddenly realizing he had no idea what to do with Elnora.

With Elnora already back in her room, Elara didn’t have the guts to tease Albert by herself.

She carefully walked past Albert, and the gloomy air around Albert made her gaze involuntarily drift to him.

And that’s when she noticed the faint redness at the corners of his eyes.

Albert stood motionless outside Elnora’s door, looking utterly lost. Elara’s eyes lingered on his face for a long moment, and almost subconsciously, she discreetly raised her phone.

Maybe Elara had been staring at him for too long, because Albert gave her a sharp look, clearly annoyed.

“What are you staring at?” Albert grumbled.

Elara noticed the redness around Albert’s eyes. Before she could even think, she blurted out, “Mr. Campbell, did you cry?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Elara instantly regretted them.

She thought, ‘Albert is one of the most influential people in Port City. How can I blurt out such a humiliating question right in front of him?’

Albert fell silent.

He shot Elara a fierce glare and growled, “Get lost.”

‘My nose just felt a little sore, not like I was crying or anything. She must be blind as a bat; Albert grumbled to himself.

Elara was left speechless.

She’d always been a little wary of Albert, but seeing him like this, she couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for him.

So Elara fished a few tissues out of her bag and handed them to Albert.

Elara said with a gentle smile, “Mr. Campbell, use these to wipe up, okay?”

Albert didn’t reach out to take them.

Elara kept her smile, looking understanding and reassuring.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Campbell. What happened tonight? My lips are sealed.”

“If you dare tell anyone about this, you’re toast,” Albert warned.

Elara nodded so fast it was like her head was on a spring.

Albert finally grabbed the tissues from her hand, snatching them away.

Elara gave him a sheepish grin.

She said, “The front desk will bring your room key up in a bit.”

Albert mumbled a low “yeah.”

“I’ll head back to my room then,” Elara said.

Albert nodded.

Elara finally opened her own door and slipped inside.

As soon as she closed it, her smile grew even wider.

Elara thought, ‘Serves him right.

‘I’m not even the main character here, but I can’t help feeling happy for Elnora.

‘It’s like watching karma in action, so satisfying.

Elara set her purse down, grabbed her phone, and opened the private group chat she’d joined back when she was at Supernova Entertainment.

When she got back tonight, she glanced at the chat. It was buzzing with activity.

Elara knew without even looking. They were definitely gossiping about Stella and Albert.

She spotted some really annoying comments.

But with Elnora right beside her, Elara just bit her tongue and kept quiet.

Now, she grabbed her phone and tapped into that private group chat.

The chat was still buzzing with activity.

Someone had switched on anonymous mode, so nobody’s usernames were showing up.

Anonymous User One: [Mr. Campbell obviously still has feelings for Stella. The way he stepped in to protect Stella was what a real man does.]

Anonymous User Two: [Ms. Taylor’s so unlucky. Her parents never cared about her, but at least Mr. Campbell does. Too bad she can’t be his wife. The way she’s sticking around him now looks kind of scandalous.] Anonymous User Three: [Let’s be real, Ms. Taylor and Mr. Campbell have been together for years. Isn’t the newcomer actually the homewrecker here?]

Anonymous User One: [Exactly! If Elnora hadn’t come out of nowhere, Stella would’ve surely been the one to marry Mr. Campbell.]

Anonymous User One: [Honestly, if you ask me, Elnora’s the homewrecker.]

Anonymous User One: [Besides, Elnora’s not Mr. Campbell’s type. She’s way too overbearing, not even a hint of softness. No man would ever want a woman like that, seriously.]

Elara’s expression darkened the moment she saw those messages.

‘Cowards who only dare to hide behind their screens, Elara thought, feeling disgusted.
